Sassie & Beau
240 Views | 2 Comments | | Rainbow Bridge

Sassie was diagnosed with bone cancer almost 7 months ago.  She got off the couch one Sassie & Beaunight and she was limping.  I took her into the vet and they found a tumor on her left shoulder the size of a baseball.   At that time, the Vet said that she would not live longer than 30 days.   She was the boss of my house and she sure showed the vets that she was the boss of her life too.  She was not leaving this world till she was good and ready to go and she outlived their estimate by months.  They were amazed.

The last couple of weeks were not good for her.  She was getting tired and went up and down less frequently then she used to.  But she loved the deck and on Sunday she made her way up there for the last time. We spent most of the day on the deck sitting there with the sun and the wind blowing thru her hair.  She was my Beautiful Girl.

Sunday night she came and put her head on my lap and just sat there looking at me like she was telling me that she just could not take it any longer, that she was tired of fighting.  I kept petting her head and asking her if she was tired and if she wanted to feel better.  She had that tired look in her eyes and I knew what I had to do.  She could not fight any longer and it was her time to leave me no matter how much it would hurt me.

I am so very sad.... she was my "Beautiful Girl" and I miss her and all her "woofing".  There was not an hour (or should I say minute) that passed that she did not give us a "woof" for something or another.  Sometimes I just thought she was barking because the wind blew past her the wrong way.   The house seems so quiet even with my other 5 dogs there; I guess I know who made all the noise.

I know she is watching over me and waiting for me at Rainbow Bridge along with my Beau, he passed on April 1, 2008 from Cancer of his Spleen, running like puppies again free from the pain that they had while they were here.

My Beautiful Girl and my Beautiful Boy will be dearly missed and never forgotten.... I love you both.....

I, too, have 6 furry kids. In Dec. my Smokey was diagnosed with lymphoma. 6 months later she is still in full remission, but the fear of "what happens when..."
looms in the back of my head. I'm so sorry for your loss. We had to let my brothers hound, Ajax, go on ahead of us. He had lung cancer, and fought for as long as he could. The look of.."I can't anymore" is still vivid.
You and yours be safe. Ken

What beautiful babies! I am sorry for your loss, someday I too will have to cross that bridge. I thought you might be interested in a really neat website. www.2dogs2000miles.org Its the story of Luke Robinson and his two great pyranees walking from Austin to Boston to find the cause of canine and feline cancer. Luke lost his first dog Malcolm to bone cancer he also was a great pyranees. Check it out its a great cause. Again, I am sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to you, just remember you will see them again!
