Tazmo

On February 10th, we lost the most incredible dog I have ever met.  Tazmo came to me when he was 16 years old and not in very good condition.  I honestly thought that we were going to be more of a hospice to him, giving him a home with no abuse, healthy food and lots of love.  I knew that if his previous mom had taken him to the shelter, he would have been put down.

He was a Chow mix, bought we said that he was half dog, half alien.  He was the creature from middle earth.  There were more things wrong with him than there were right.  He had Cushing's disease that had never been treated, he was 20 pounds overweight because of it, and he was half blind and half deaf-except when food wrappers were involved.  He had bad hips and a bad attitude, but we loved him anyways.  There were so many times that we thought "Uh-oh, this is it..." and he would always bounce back.

Unfortunately, after 2 years with us, he finally had to be euthanized because he was in mass organ failure.  The hospital that I work at is closed on Sundays, but one of the vets that I work with is truly and angel to animals, and she met me at work to let him go peacefully.  Three of my friends also went, so he left this earth with 5 women standing around him bawling like babies telling him how much we loved him.  My then 7 month old son reached down and petted him gently on the ear, and that was it.  People should go so peacefully.

Tazmo, we know that you are up in Heaven being the Sheriff like you were here, and your dad is really sad that he was at work and didn't get to tell you goodbye, but we will never forget you.  You were a super star in the Pirates of the Caribbean haunted house at the school playing the jailhouse dog, and being by far the most talked about part of our three days of hard work, and then you got to be the star again when you rode in the Los Gatos Christmas parade.

We love you buddy, and I still try not to step on you when I get out of bed.  Be good, and we will see you again someday!!!

I know it's hard to lose someone in your family especially before their time. But know Tazmo is not in pain and playing with all her friends who have crossed the rainbow bridge.

Sounds like the experience I had with a friend's Rottweiller, Caesar. He was 14 when he came to our house to live and had arthritis, was going blind & deaf, except of course when someone had food. He lived to be 16 before we had to take him to the vet. It was dusk, and he loved to go for rides so I took him to the vet in the pickup, he was soooo happy. The sun was going down and we drove right into it the whole way. After it was all over we buried him on a hill next to his friend, Angel, also a Rottweiller. I bawled for days. I had a dream about him a few days later, he was running around with a bunch of other dogs and he looked so young and healthy again. It was like he came to say goodbye and I am doing great so don't worry about me. He has been gone three years now and we still think he is in the backyard sunning on the futon mattress sometimes.

He was very lucky to have ya as his lasting days were near. Love and Kindness goes along way in humans/ and our children(animals) hearts.
