if the obamas adopt a dog, rather than buy from a breeder, they will make the media a part of it - and this would be a great thing. to the millions and millions of dogs in shelters, a little spot light shone their way is exactly what they need to make people go, "awe, poor little pups. lets go adopt one."

Jana Kohl (A Rare Breed of Love) has spoken directly to Barrack and Michelle and they were appalled by the plight of puppy mill dogs.  They vowed to her that when they get a dog for their girls, it WILL be adopted from a shelter or rescue. 

If you've not heard Jana speak, trust me when I say, when she speaks, people listen.  She's also a very nice woman who is passionate about her mission.  Obama probably had the same reaction!
