I will dedicate this weekend to all animals who have crossed over and the people who loved and cared for them. I also want to honer all the animals who never experienced love, companionship, what it was like to have a family. But know that they have crossed over they can experience it all.

Yes, like suzannep, I also want to honer all the animals who never experienced love, companionship, what it was like to have a family. There are so many, that were so deserving. I think about them often. They deserve special days of remembrance.

This prayer has helped me when I was feeling very sad over my loss. I hope you find comfort in the words. Take care and God bless.
Ev

A Dog's Prayer

"To Those Who Love & Those Who Love Me"

When I am gone, release me, let me go-
I have so many things to see and do.
You must not tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess
How much you gave me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you have each shown.
But now it is time I traveled alone.
So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust,
It is only for a while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart,
I will not be far away, for life goes on,
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can not see or touch me, I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear
All my love around you soft and clear.
And then, when you must come this way alone,
I will greet you with a smile and "Welcome Home".

That is a beautiful prayer, Ev.
I agree with Suzaane and Patandthe boys- and we will devote an entire weekend to animals never cared for or loved- for sure.

Another prayer, of sorts that I keep in a frame as a constant reminder of how we keep our losses in life is the one written by Bernadette Larson~ (here it is in part). It helps us to celebrate the gift of sharing time with our fur friends, who are one with nature-

"Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that flow
I am the sunlight on my own grave

I am a gentle autumn rain
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight

do not stand at my grave and cry
do not stand at my grave and cry
do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there I did not die
__________________________________________________

For me, after the sadness of physical loss, I am a fuller and happier person for having known and loved any pet. They are a gift and would not want our grief, but the smiles they treasured in life.

Along wiith my prayers for all pet caretakers and advocates, I'd also like to send a fervent request to God that a special way be open to any animal needing our care, that they be able to find their way to the help and love they need.. colleen ps I know this is for pets that have passed but my heart was just moved to add this

Colleen, I will pray the same as well. There are so many little ones that will never know the love or joy of being part of a family, I think when we lose one of our cherished babies maybe we can open our hearts and take in another one to adopt, foster or to sponser. I am thinking of all the creatures tonight who have died from abuse and neglect. I hope they really are running through sun filled meadows and playing together. Barbara

Evening All. I'm new to the list...just joined a week or so ago. Fran suggested this forum and I'm thankful she did. Reading many of these post brought back so many feelings. I just wanted to send my heart-felt thoughts and prayers out to everyone...especially those who loss is so recent...and I am lighting a candle in memory of all those who have gone on across the bridge. We will all be together again one day. Mandy girl...Squeaky, Charlie...mommy will see you all again. Manny girl...my heart dog...my soul...I miss you like no other.

My heart and prayers..and always my thoughts...are for the poor babies who never had someone to love them, to feed them, to care for them, to play with them.  For the babies who are lonely, and afraid, for the ones who have to look for shelter every night, Please God, hear our prayers so these poor special babies will can find the peace, warmth, food and love they so surely deserve!!!!

Amen....

To all the lonely and scared souls out there. I light my candle for you and all your furfriends who have already crossed over. May you find the loving home and family you so richly deserve. My door will always be open to you for a meal, fresh water and a warm bed to sleep in at night. My heart fills with the love you project to those of us who understand. Please know that you are loved. May you find peace this night and the rest of the nights to come.

I learned a lesson last night-never give names to feral kittens. I have been feeding ferals in my yard-twice a day so they don't have to wander, and always provide clean water. This little catling I named Snuggles. Last night when I came home, I found him dead on the road by my house, I buried him and will light a candle tonight. His siblings I named also but will name no more. Give him a thought tonight please. Thankyou.

Lyn

I will be praying and remembering your little Snuggles, as I remember my Snuggles who passed over the summer of 07.  I think naming the little ferrals, even though it is hard when you lose one, is a sign of the love you have for them, and I would encourage you to continue giving them names.  Someday when you cross the rainbow bridge and they are there waiting for you to thank you for helping them, whether their lives were short or long you will have a name to call them by, and it will be a special bond between the two of you.  God Bless You.  Sharon

Thank you, Lynn for feeding the homeless kitties. And I know it's difficult not to get attached. They're lucky to have you in their life.
I know this isn't the 'forum' to use, but I would appreciate if everyone would also include in their candle lightings, one for my brother's cats. My brother had a stroke (he's only in his 50's) and has been in ICU for several weeks in critical condition and a neighbor goes by and feeds his cats for him. So his cats don't get any 'love' but they do get food and water.
Thank you!

This is my favorite poem.  It's  by Alice E. Chase, I memorized it a long time ago.  It always gives me such great comfort.  I hope it gives all grievving animal parents as much comfort as it gives me.  Read on:

"Four Feet in Heaven"

Your favorite chair is vacant now, no eager purrs to greet me, no softly padded paws to run, escatically to greet me

No coaxing rubs, no plaintive cries, will say it's time for feeding, I've put away your dish and all the things you won't be needing.

But I will miss you, little friend, for I could never measure, the happiness you brought to me, the comfort and the pleasure

And since God put you hear, to share in earthly joy and sorrow, I'm sure there'll be a place for you, in Heaven's bright tomorrow.
