I also love this:

I believe there is a lot more good in the world than bad.
I believe you can do anything you set your mind too.
I believe we are all created equal yet we are all unique.
I believe that everyone has something only they can contribute to the world.
I believe that love and gratitude are the two greatest forces in the universe.
I believe that you deserve and you will receive exactly what you send out.
I believe that written expressions create an energy that makes our world a better place.
I believe a picture is worth a thousand words.
I believe that a prompting is a gift that must be acted upon.
I believe that life is an adventure and should be lived with passion.
I believe in a person's right to follow their heart and those that do show great courage.
I believe in respecting another's right to believe as they choose.
I believe that faith and love will deliver a life of abundance.
I believe in living "happily ever after".
I believe that friendship is what life is all about.
I believe that my friends are the best people in the world.
I believe that crystals in freshly fallen snow is the most beautiful sight in the world.
I believe that an ocean beach is a magical place where you can dream and feel at peace.
I believe that life is a collection of stories.
I believe in the spirit of Santa Claus
I believe that miracles come from the goodness of people's hearts.
I believe that all mankind has a desire to love and be loved and that is all we really need to know

Through the woodland, through the valley
Comes a horseman wild and free
Tilting at the windmills passing
Who can the brave young horseman be
He is wild but he is mellow
He is strong but he is weak
He is cruel but he is gentle
He is wise but he is meek
Reaching for his saddlebag
He takes a battered book into his hand
Standing like a prophet bold
He shouts across the ocean to the shore
Till he can shout no more

I have come oer moor and mountain
Like the hawk upon the wing
I was once a shining knight
Who was the guardian of a king
I have searched the whole world over
Looking for a place to sleep
I have seen the strong survive
And I have seen the lean grown weak

See the children of the earth
Who wake to find the table bare
See the gentry in the country
Riding off to take the air

Reaching for his saddlebag
He takes a rusty sword into his hand
Then striking up a knightly pose
He shouts across the ocean to the shore
Till he can shout no more

See the jailor with his key
Who locks away all trace of sin
See the judge upon the bench
Who tries the case as best he can
See the wise and wicked ones
Who feed upon lifes sacred fire
See the soldier with his gun
Who must be dead to be admired

See the man who tips the needle
See the man who buys and sells
See the man who puts the collar
On the ones who dare not tell
See the drunkard in the tavern
Stemming gold to make ends meet
See the youth in ghetto black
Condemned to life upon the street

Reaching for his saddlebag
He takes a tarnished cross into his hand
Then standing like a preacher now
He shouts across the ocean to the shore
Then in a blaze of tangled hooves
He gallops off across the dusty plain
In vain to search again
Where no one will hear

Through the woodland, through the valley
Comes a horseman wild and free
Tilting at the windmills passing
Who can the brave young horseman be
He is wild but he is mellow
He is strong but he is weak
He is cruel but he is gentle
He is wise but he is meek

an all time favorite.

I found these Lightfoot words:

I don't believe in miracles if it's all the same by you
Your wishes would come true if I had my say
Whether it's right or wrong the words of every song
Remind us of a love we knew where love should not go wrong
In yesterday
Hang on ye drifters now you got so much to go and gamble on
Watch out for the shifting sand where ever you may ramble

One more from Paul Simon

What can I do
What can I do
Much of what you say is true
I know you see through me
But there's no tenderness
Beneath your honesty

Oh, right and wrong
Right and wrong
Ooh, never helped us get along
You say you care for me
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/DLaR ]
But there's no tenderness
Beneath your honesty

You and me were such good friends
What's your hurry?
You and me could make amends
I'm not worried
I'm not worried
Oh, honesty,
oh, honesty
Ooh, it's such a waste of energy
No you don't have to lie to me
Just give me some tenderness
Beneath your honesty
You don't have to lie to me
Just give me some tenderness

You have all been great with the contributions I am learning such great  new music and poetry. The Maya Angelou particularly impresses me thanks Lala and Jennifer.

This is one especially for Lala, I am sorry for the loss of your friend

Is there someone I can believe in
Is there somewhere I can hide
Take me out of the straits Im in
Come and stay here by my side
Somebody I can rely on
I broke the law, Ive been set free
Give me something to decide upon
Come and show yourself to me
Is there someone sewing seams
Through all my hopes, through all my dreams
You know living a life of ease
Dont make yer meals taste better
If you please

Is there someone I can relate to
Who will break the ice for me
Take me out of the place Im in
Come and share your life with me
Somebody with nothing to live up to
Who will mend my broken dreams
Give me a wave I can ride upon
Come and show your strength to me

I have felt the final rush
Of loves embrace, the magic touch
Running headlong to attract
I felt the breath of satan
On my back

Is there someone I can believe in
Is there something I can do
Take me out of the straits Im in
Let me show myself to you
Somebody to whom I can belong
Take my hand, Ive been set free
Give me some wings I can glide upon
Come and show yourself to me

Is there someone sewings seams
Through all my hopes, through all my dreams
You know living a life of ease
Dont make yer meals taste better
If you please

So true, Greg. I think we all do it and see it everyday.

I really embraced this song when I turned 30.

I took my love, I took it down
Climbed a mountain and I turned around
I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life

Well, I've been afraid of changing
cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I'm getting older too

Oh, take my love, take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring it down

And who doesn't love Joni Mitchell?

I've been 'neath the moon before
Held by the charms
Of other arms
I heard love's tune before
And it used to bore me
'Till you stood before me
You're my thrill
You do something to me
You send chills right through me
When I look at you
'Cause you're my thrill
You're my thrill
How my pulse increases
I just go to pieces
When I look at you
'Cause you're my thrill
Nothing seems to matter
Here's my heart on a silver platter
Where's my will
Why this strange desire
That keeps mounting higher and higher
When I look at you
I can't keep still
You're my thrill

Very nice choices Jennifer, you and I would get along great as long as we avoided Country and Western  but I might even suffer through a little of that if the company was good. I love music but it has its proper time and place.  Soft, romantic music in the background at special times is wonderful, or an Ipod to help make work less like drudgery can be really good. Lying on a blanket, on a warm day, next to a pond with someone special is the last place I would want an Ipod or cell phone or any form of electronics.  Slow dancing outdoors under the stars would be a different matter.

Maybe something like this by Johnny Rivers,

It's late at night and we're all alone
With just the music on the radio
No one's coming, no one's gonna telephone
Just me and you and the lights down low
And we're

Slow dancing, swaying to the music
Slow dancing, just me and my girl
Slow dancing, swaying to the music
No one else in the whole wide world
Just you, girl

And we just flow together when the lights are low
And shadows dancing across the wall
The music's playing so soft and slow
And the rest of the world so far away and small
And we're

Slow dancing, swaying to the music
Slow dancing, just me and my girl
Slow dancing, swaying to the music
No one else in the whole wide world
Just you, girl

Hold me, hold me
Don't ever let me go

As we dance together in the dark
There's so much love in this heart of mine
You whisper to me and I hold you tight
You're the one I thought I'd never find

Slow dancing, swaying to the music
Slow dancing, just me and my girl
Slow dancing, swaying to the music
No one else in the whole wide world
Just you, girl

Title: Unchained Melody

Whoa! My love, my darling,
I hunger for your touch,
Alone. Lonely time.
And time goes by, so slowly,
And time can do so much,
Are you still mine?
I need your love.
I need your love.
God speed your love to me.

Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea,
To the open arms of the sea.
Lonely rivers sigh, wait for me, wait for me,
I'll be coming home, wait for me.

Whoa! My love, my darling,
I hunger, hunger!, for your love,
For love. Lonely time.
And time goes by, so slowly,
And time can do so much,
Are you still mine?
I need your love.
I need your love.
God speed your love to me.

Just be careful, there may be two dogs, a cat, and nine geese under foot. Other than that we would be all alone.

I love this:

Unchained Melody is one of my favorite songs.

This is one of my recent favorites:

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result"

Thanks for contributing Bella, I love that quote also about people caring enough to break down the walls.  And to paraphrase another quote, Greg always sees things with his heart. Here is a song to add to your other love songs:

Unforgettable, that's what you are.

Unforgettable, in every way.
And forever more (and forever more)
That's how you'll stay (that's how you'll stay)

That's why darling it's incredible,
That someone so unforgettable,
Thinks that I am unforgettable too.

No never before, has someone been more

Unforgettable (unforgettable) in every way (in every way)
And forever more (and forever more)
That's how you'll stay (that's how you'll stay)

That's why darling, its incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am, unforgettable too

Greg, count me in for any dancing under the stars!!!! I promise not to step on any pets.

I have seen you dance Sweet Jane, the pets are quite safe, it is me they need to watch out for.

Here is one I have been known to sing, but it might take a few drinks.

You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips.
And there´s no tenderness like before in your fingertips.
You´re trying hard not to show it, (baby).
But baby, baby I know it...

You´ve lost that lovin´ feeling,
Whoa, that lovin´ feeling,
You´ve lost that lovin´ feeling,
Now it´s gone...gone...gone...wooooooh.

Now there´s no welcome look in your eyes when I reach for you.
And now your´re starting to criticize little things I do.
It makes me just feel like crying, (baby).
´Cause baby, something in you is dying.

You lost that lovin´ feeling,
Whoa, that lovin´ feeling,
You´ve lost that lovin´ feeling,
Now it´s gone...gone...gone...woooooah

Baby, baby, I get down on my knees for you.

If you would only love me like you used to do, yeah.

We had a love...a love...a love you don´t find everyday.

So don´t...don´t...don´t...don´t let it slip away.

Baby (baby), baby (baby),
I beg of you please...please,
I need your love (I need your love), I need your love (I need your love),
So bring it on back (So bring it on back), Bring it on back (so bring it on back).

Bring back that lovin´ feeling,
Whoa, that lovin´ feeling
Bring back that lovin´ feeling,
´Cause it´s gone...gone...gone,
and I can´t go on,
noooo...

Bring back that lovin´ feeling,
Whoa, that lovin´ feeling
Bring back that lovin´ feeling,
´Cause it´s gone...gone

Come to think of it, people always join in with this one, it is a great group song for the chorus.Jennifer, we might need some talent for the next time. You might want to swim the big lake. Jennifer is now MB, she needed a nickname, it is easy to figure out if you speak french and think botanically.

Slow Dancing is such a great, classic song. I was thinking Ronnie Milsap recorded it, but I was wrong. I am not the biggest fan of all modern/cross over country but I never really tire of some of the great classic artists. Maybe you can handle these, Greg:

In the twilight glow I see her
Blue eyes crying in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we'd never meet again

Love is like a dying ember
Only memories remain
Through the ages I remember
Blue eyes crying in the rain

Someday when we meet up yonder
We'll stroll hand in hand again
In a land that knows no parting
Blue eyes crying in the rain

Blue eyes crying in the rain
Blue eyes crying in the rain
Blue eyes crying in the rain
Willie Nelson

Believe it or not, but my hometown of Wichita had a major recording studio where Elvis, Johnny Cash, Johnny Western and many other major artists recorded. Just a little trivia for ya.

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I find it very, very easy to be true
I find myself alone when each day is through
Yes, I'll admit that I'm a fool for you
Because you're mine, I walk the line

As sure as night is dark and day is light
I keep you on my mind both day and night
And happiness I've known proves that it's right
Because you're mine, I walk the line

You've got a way to keep me on your side
You give me cause for love that I can't hide
For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide
Because you're mine, I walk the line

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the tie that binds
Because you're mine, I walk the line

And this group has made a recent comeback in country music. Who doesn't pause when they hear this song?

Desperado, why dont you come to your senses?
You been out ridin fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin you
Can hurt you somehow

Don you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if shes able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin no youger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin
Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're loosin all your highs and lows
Aint it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin, but theres a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before its too late

As far as swimming the lake, I prefer road trips and driving. Being alone in a car listening to my fav music, rockin out....the best!

And for the nickname....I'm still digesting it!:)

Jen, I can handle those songs. I like this one also

Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love
Cowboys ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold
And they'd rather give you a song then diamonds or gold
Lonestar belt buckles and old faded Levi's each night begins a new day
And if you don't understand him and he don't die young
He'll probly just ride away
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love
Cowboys like smokey old pool rooms and clear mountian moringin's
Little warm puppies and children and girls of the night
And them that don't know him won't like him
And them that do sometimes won't know how to take him
He ain't wrong he's just different
but his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
They'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love
Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Make 'em be doctors and lawyers and such

Here is one I doubt you know, I will explain this group to you later:

We had a little quarrel, she and I
She told me just to curl up and die
I crept out to drown my sorrows
At a joint called no tomorrows
Where the old man came and looked me in the eye
Old Blevins
I could tell he had some wisdom to impart
Some story that was etched and burned and stamped
Upon his heart
Then his eyes began to glisten
'Cause he could see that I would listen
We sat there at that bar 'til nearly three
And this is what Old Blevins said to me
He said "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
In Tijuana blah blah blah back in 1963
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
You should have been there blah blah blah
Is what Old Blevins said to me
I sat there and I listened to his words
As they flapped around my head like little birds
Had he gone plumb 'round the bend
Or could I just not comprehend
His lips were writing lines I could not read
When suddenly, it all came clear to me
As he said "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
Then crazy hippies blah blah blah blah no effect on me
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
The great depression blah blah blah
And he would not leave me be
Old blevins was still talking when I seized my chance to flee
Back home she's never known I'm not the fool I used to be
Buy I know that a man and woman's lives were somehow changed
By a loathesome toothless geezer, incoherent and deranged
And my memories of that evening fuel and inner mounting fear
That I might become old Blevins anywhere that they sell beer
And I'll say "Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
I don't remember blah blah blah blah blah blah
Mistakes were made
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
How 'bout them Cowboys? blah blah blah
Like Old Blevins used to say
Old Blevins

The line...a loathesome toothless geezer, incoherent and deranged

LOL! Those lyrics are hysterical!

In the same genre....George Strait has some really great one's. He's the country music king of double entendres. These lyrics just kill me!

They call me the fireman
That's my name
Makin my rounds all over town
Puttin out old flames
Well everybody'd like to have what I've got
I can cool em down while they're smolderin hot
I'm the fireman
That's my name

Last night they had a bad one a mile or two down the road
Well my buddy walked out and left this woman burnin out of control
Well I was down there in bout an hour or so
With a little mouth to mouth she was ready to go
I'm the fireman thats my name

They call me the fireman
That's my name
Makin my rounds all over town puttin out old flames
Well everybodyd like to have what I've got
I can cool em down while they're smolderin hot
I'm the fireman that's my name...burn em up

I've got a fire-engine red t-bird automobile
In a minute or less I can be dressed fit to kill
I work twenty-four on and twenty-four off
When they get too hot, they just give me a call
I'm the fireman, thats my name

And:

Let me be your mailman and I'll always come through.
There's no denyin', come rain or shine, I'll deliver my love to you.
I do things by the letter, you can put your stamp on me
'Cause there ain't nobody better for a special delivery.

Like a pony express in the wild, wild west, I'll ride hard all night long.
And I can saddle up fast, get you there first class long before the dawn.
You know your mail's gonna get to you come snow, rain, sleet or hail
'Cause I'm a top flight, hold-you-tight,
Get-you-there-by-daylight, do-you-right overnight male.

I know your heart is fragile, so I'll handle it with care.
There ain't no doubt, I know love's route, so baby let me take you there.
I'll bring you cards and flowers, but I know just what you need.
Just give me 24-hours satisfaction guarantee.

Yeah I'm a top flight, hold you tight,
Get you there by daylight, do you right overnight male.

:) OHhhh! Even now, cracking up re-reading these!!

Some great literary quotes from a favorite writer:

"I have been a selfish being all my life, in practice, though not in principle"

"All the privilege I claim for my own sex (it is not a very enviable one; you need not covet it), is that of loving longest, when existence or when hope is gone."

"Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery. I quit such odious subjects as soon as I can, impatient to restore everybody..."

"Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love."

If you are always busy doing something,
you cannot enjoy the world
(Lao Tzu)

Right now I am busy doing many things but I do take time to enjoy nature, and friends.

A song for a special friend:

You know youre a cute little heartbreaker
Foxy
You know youre a sweet little lovemaker
Foxy

I wanna take you home
I wont do you no harm, no
Youve got to be all mine, all mine
Ooh, foxy lady

I see you, heh, on down on the scene
Foxy
You make me wanna get up and scream
Foxy
Ah, baby listen now

OK one more:

I'm a man of few words
But a few is enough
A man don't need to talk
He just gets up and walks
When the going gets rough
I've got feelings down deep
Still I think you don't care
I've made up my mind
Got to leave you behind
And start living out there

So paint me on velvet
And do not disguise
The bright silver teardrops
That you've brought to my eyes
Hang me out by the roadside
For the whole world to see
Jesus and Elvis
The Confederate flag
And Willie and me

Ran away to a motel
But before I checked in
Met a bouncer named Steve
And decided to leave
For a gathering of men
With our drums in our hands
And our hearts on our sleeves
We stood around in the rain
Just sharing our pain
And learning to grieve

So paint me on velvet
And do not disguise
The bright silver teardrops
That you brought to my eyes
Sell me out by the roadside
And there we'll all be
Jesus and Elvis
The dogs playing poker
And Willie and me

Ive made up my mind
Im tired of wasting all my precious time
Youve got to be all mine, all mine
Foxy lady
Here I come

Im gonna take you home
I wont do you no harm, no
Youve got to be all mine, all mine

Here I come
Im comin to get ya
Foxy lady
You look so good
Yeah, foxy
Yeah, give us some
Foxy
Yeah, get it, babe
You make me feel like
Feel like sayin foxy
Foxy
Foxy lady
Foxy lady

I am trying to find a very hard to find song, eventually maybe lol.

oh a few more lines

Greg

Last night a little dancer came dancin' to my door

Last night a little angel Came pumpin cross my floor

She said "Come on baby I got a licence for love

And if it expires pray help from above"

You keep on pushing, babe,

Like I've never known before

You know you drive me crazy, child,

An' I just wanna see you on the floor

Foxy - nnniiiiiccceeee! Love me some Billy Idol, too.

Greg, I was thinking of one your earlier posts. If I could pick a song to dance to under the stars with you, well, it would be very, very hard to pick one, but here are two:

I know your eyes in the morning sun
I feel you touch me in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander far from me
I wanna feel you in my arms again

And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love and then softly leave
And it's me you need to show

Chorus:
How deep is your love
I really need to learn
cause were living in a world of fools
Breaking us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me

I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You're the light in my deepest darkest hour
You're my saviour when I fall
And you may not think
I care for you
When you know down inside
That I really do
And it's me you need to show
The Bee Gees

My love
I've been through so many changes in my life woman
It's a wonder I ain't lost my mind
And I ain't never said how much I need you sugar
But I sho need you by my side

My love, just thinking about you baby
Just blows my mind
My love, just thinking about you baby
Just blows my mind all the time

Life with me I know for sure it ain't been easy
But you stayed with me anyway
And even though you ain't gonna lose too much by leaving
I'm so glad you stayed

My love, just thinking about you baby
Just blows my mind
My love, just thinking about you baby
Just blows my mind all the time

You've been my friend and you've been my lover, oh lord
Honey you're everything I need
You've made my love so strong now I know where I belong
Oh girl you'll never have to worry
Oh baby any more, any more
Lionel Richie

Now, don't step on my toes!:)

OMG- why don't you guys just go out and get it over with?? (I don't know where to find the smiley faces). I was going to be more crude than that, but I wanted to keep it family-friendly. :^)
But seriously, have you guys gone out yet or what?? :^)

Bella, what a great idea!!! I prefer not to answer the last part but I will say this.

I have read about Jennifer on the internet and she is very very special. I am not sure I am ready for a big city girl like her. She is lovely, talented, driven, and probably smells good. I work with dirt, and lawns and um shrubs. What would someone like her see in a guy like me. ( I even have a pick up truck, somewhere). shucks lol

Bella I have known women like Jennifer before, it starts out nice and slow.  You touch hands, maybe a kiss, a hug. Then later it invovles rope, and boots and spurs and lots of bucking and animal noises and... no wait that was the rodeo, never mnd. Whch one is Jennifer again?

Speaking of Texas, here is an interesting song:

Texas is a big state, North to South and East to West
Alaska doesn't really count, we're bigger than the rest
You can waltz across it, though, so grab your yellow rose
And sing another song of Texas--this is how it goes:
One more stupid song about Texas,
For miles and miles it rambles on
Biggest egos, biggest hair, biggest liars anywhere,
Let's sing another stupid Texas song
By God we're so darn proud to be from Texas--yahoo!
Even of our pride we're proud and we're proud of that pride, too
Our pride about our home state is the proudest pride indeed,
And we're proud to be Americans, until we can secede

One more stupid song about Texas,
You've heard it all before so sing along
Biggest belt buckles and boasts, love that big old Texas toast,
Let's sing another stupid Texas song
Our accents are the drawliest, our howdies are the y'alliest,
Our Lone Star flag's the waviest, our fried steak's the cream-graviest
Our rattlesnakes the coiliest, our beaches are the oiliest
Our politicians most corrupt, our stop signs most abrupt
Our guitars are the twangiest, our guns are the keblangiest.
Our cows are the Long-horniest, our yodels the forlorniest,
Our cookoffs are the chiliest, our Waylon is the Williest,
Our sausage is the smokiest, our neighbors are the Okiest
From Texarkana to El Paso, Dalhart down to Orange
Every spot in Texas has got what you're looking for
Aren'cha glad that Texas put the stars up in the sky?
If heaven isn't Texas, pardner, I don't want to die

One more stupid song about Texas, just 'cause we're braggin',
That don't mean it's wrong
Biggest heads and biggest hearts, biggest various body parts,
Let's sing another stupid Texas song
Toss your hats into the air, we're obnoxious (we don't care!)
Let's sing another stupid Texas song
One more blusterin', bumptious, bald faced, brazen, high flown, high-tone, dander-up, panderin',
pompous, puffed-up, snotty, swaggerin', stupid Texas song!

Top that one Jen lol. (this one was for  you Tammy)
