Great Cohen quote Jennifer!!!

JJ is now Sweet Jane, I am going to have to think of a nickname for you Jennifer. Something soft and warm and musical.  I will work on it.

Karen you will have to contribute too, I know you love sexy songs. (She has been working most evenings rescuing kittens, the last ones are quite adorable, she named one Butternut.)

Busy evening for me so I will try to think of songs another time.

Greg you never change lol.

My favorite Beatles song:

We were talking about the space between us all
And the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth, then it's far too late, when they pass away
We were talking about the love we all could share
When we find it, to try our best to hold it there with our love
With our love, we could save the world, if they only knew

Try to realise it's all within yourself
No one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small
And life flows on within you and without you

We were talking about the love that's gone so cold
And the people who gain the world and lose their soul
They don't know, they can't see, are you one of them?

When you've seen beyond yourself then you may find
Peace of mind is waiting there
And the time will come when you see we're all one
And life flows on within you and without you

Also one quote:

"The secret of joy in work is contained in one word-Excellence!"

Pearl Buck

I have seen some of Gregs work, and there is true joy there.

Eleanor Rigby

Available On:

Report a Mistake!

Ah, look at all the lonely people.
Ah, look at all the lonely people.

Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice in the church where a wedding has been,
Lives in a dream.
Waits at the window, wearing a face that she keeps in a jar by the door,
Who is it for?

All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?

Father McKenzie, writing the words of a sermon that no-one will hear,
No-one comes near
Look at him working, darning his socks in the night when there's nobody there,
What does he care?

All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?

Ah, look at all the lonely people.
Ah, look at all the lonely people.

Eleanor Rigby died in the church and was buried along with her name.
Nobody came.
Father McKenzie, wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave.
No-one was saved.

All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?

My favorite

And a quote,

There is nothing sadder than an old hipster.

I had to search and search for this one:

Dan Bern - Opposable Thumb

Song Lyrics

Over the last seven months my little dog, Gidget
Has developed an opposable thumb
She now pumps the gas when we go to the Exxon, and
I'm slowly teaching her to drive

When people see her typing
They figure it's like one of those dogs that wears funny hats
Or things equally dumb
But it's not like that at all
It's my little dog, Gidget
And her brand new opposable thumb

I've begun letting her travel
By herself on the bus
To towns three and four hours away
She writes me postcards
Her penmanship is fair
I'm having quite a time is all she'll say
It's hard letting go
But I'm awfully proud of her
With her knife and fork she doesn't miss a crumb
Ah life is much improved
Since my little dog, Gidget
Developed an opposable thumb

Perhaps one day,
She'll wander off and get a job
Doing data entry or light filing in an office
When that day comes I'll be sad
But I won't be one of those guys Getting in the way of his dog's progress

Last week at Dodger Stadium
She threw out the first
Ceremonial pitch before they played the Braves
Yesterday she painted me a nice little canvas
Of a sailboat bobbing gently on the waves
If you're proud of your dog
Because he chases sticks
Gidget grabs the sticks and play the drums

Well life is really good
Since my little dog, Gidget
Developed an opposable thumb

Ohoooooooo-oh-oh-ah
Opposable thumb

Hi all,
This is a great Sonnet by William Shakespeare

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

Great Song lyrics: Frank Sinatra-What are you doing for the rest of your life

I want to see your face in every kind of light
In fields of dawn and forests of the night
And when you stand before the candles on a cake
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make

What are you doing the rest of your life?
North and South and East and West of your life
I have only one request of your life
That you spend it all with me

All the seasons and the times of your days
All the nickels and the dimes of your days
Let the reasons and the rhymes of your days
All begin and end with me

I want to see your face in every kind of light
In the fields of dawn and the forests of the night
And when you stand before the candles on a cake
Oh, let me be the one to hear the silent wish you make

Those tomorrows waiting deep in your eyes
In the world of love that you keep in your eyes
I'll awaken what's asleep in your eyes
It may take a kiss or two

Through all of my life
Summer, Winter, Spring, and Fall of my life
All I ever will recall of my life
Is all of my life with you

quote:
"Your greatest power is when nothing disturbs you, when your peace of mind is always in one piece, when you are not afraid."

Love the sonnet, Lala...thanks!

A poem by Wislawa Szymborska:

Possibilities

I prefer movies.
I prefer cats.
I prefer the oaks along the Warta.
I prefer Dickens to Dostoyevsky.
I prefer myself liking people
to myself loving mankind.
I prefer keeping a needle and thread on hand, just in case.
I prefer the color green.
I prefer not to maintain
that reason is to blame for everything.
I prefer exceptions.
I prefer to leave early.
I prefer talking to doctors about something else.
I prefer the old fine-lined illustrations.
I prefer the absurdity of writing poems
to the absurdity of not writing poems.
I prefer, where love's concerned, nonspecific anniversaries
that can be celebrated every day.
I prefer moralists
who promise me nothing.
I prefer cunning kindness to the over-trustful kind.
I prefer the earth in civvies.
I prefer conquered to conquering countries.
I prefer having some reservations.
I prefer the hell of chaos to the hell of order.
I prefer Grimms' fairy tales to the newspapers' front pages.
I prefer leaves without flowers to flowers without leaves.
I prefer dogs with uncropped tails.
I prefer light eyes, since mine are dark.
I prefer desk drawers.
I prefer many things that I haven't mentioned here
to many things I've also left unsaid.
I prefer zeroes on the loose
to those lined up behind a cipher.
I prefer the time of insects to the time of stars.
I prefer to knock on wood.
I prefer not to ask how much longer and when.
I prefer keeping in mind even the possibility
that existence has its own reason for being.

Like you the lines are lovely, Lala. (Not her real name by the way) but Doll is fitting.

Sky , very nice poem, I was not aware of it and trust me I read a lot. I generally read three books a week and listen to another two on cd as I drive.

I have a favorite old song that reminds me of someone, she used to play Motown at certain times in our relationship. She also played Nat King Cole and it has never sounded quite the same to me since. When you are lying next to someone, and there is soft music playing, it does take on a whole different sound. My favorite is this:

People say I'm the life of the party
Because I tell a joke or two
Although I might be laughing loud and hearty
Deep inside I'm blue
So take a good look at my face
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears..
I need you, need you
Since you left me if you see me with another girl
Seeming like I'm having fun
Although she may be cute
She's just a substitute
Because you're the permanent one..
So take a good look at my face
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears..
I need you, need you
Outside I'm masquerading
Inside my hope is fading
Just a clown oh yeah
Since you put me down
My smile is my make up
I wear since my break up with you..
So take a good look at my face
You'll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears

Smokey Robinson and the Miracles

I am reminded of the Thomas Wolfe book, "You can't go home again". Some moments are never recaptured, all you can do is create new ones and hope for the best. A few more Wolfe quotes:

    [script removed]

Love is the ultimate expression of the will to live.

Loneliness is and always has been the central and inevitable experience of every man.

All things on earth point home in old October; sailors to sea, travellers to walls and fences, hunters to field and hollow and the long voice of the hounds, the lover to the love he has forsaken

There are things you just can't do in life. You can't beat the phone company, you can't make a waiter see you until he's ready to see you, and you can't go home again.

Things could have been worse, I could have quoted A.E. Housman lol

WHEN I was one-and-twenty
I heard a wise man say,
‘Give crowns and pounds and guineas
  But not your heart away;

By the way Sweet Jane, nice of you to remember the song about Gidget and go out and find it. You have an excellent memory as well as soulful eyes.

Isabel created hundreds
(and
hundreds)of socks not to
mention fleaproof earwarmers
etcetera wristers etcetera, my
mother hoped that

i would die etcetera
bravely of course my father used
to become hoarse talking about how it was
a privilege and if only he
could meanwhile my

self etcetera lay quietly
in the deep mud et

cetera
(dreaming,
et
cetera, of
Your smile
eyes knees and of your Etcetera)   ...........ee cummings

Dreaming of your smile eyes knees etcetera Sweet Jane.

I love these words:

I don't like you
But I love you
See that I'm always
thinking of you
Oh, oh, oh,
you treat me badly
I love you madly
You've really got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me, baby

I don't want you,
but I need you
Don't want to kiss you
but I need you
Oh, oh, oh
you do me wring now
my love is strong now
You've really got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me, baby

I love you and all I want you to do
is just hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me

I want to leave you
don't want to stay here
Don't want to spend
another day here
Oh, oh, oh, I want to split now
I just can quit now
You've really got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me, baby

I love you and all I want you to do
is just hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me

You've really got a hold on me
You've really got a hold on me

I always liked this song

Black Magic Women

I Got a Black Magic Woman
I Got a Black Magic Woman
Yes, I Got a Black Magic Woman
She's got me so blind I can't see
But she's a Black Magic Woman
She's tryin to make a devil out of me

Don't turn your back on me baby
Don't turn your back on me baby
Yes, don't turn your back on me baby
Don't mess around with your tricks
Don't turn your back on me baby
You just might wake up my magic sticks

You got your spell on me baby
You got your spell on me baby
Yes, you got your spell on me baby
Turnin my heart into stone
I need you so bad
Magic Woman I can't leave you alone

A poem by Maya Aneglou:

PHENOMENAL WOMAN

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a model's fashion size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.
I say
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my steps
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please
And to a man
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees
Then they swarm around me
A hive of honey bees.
I say
It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth
The swing of my waist
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say
It's in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say
It's in the click of my heels
The bend of my hair
The palm of my hand
The need for my care.
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

LALA, what a GREAT poem! I may have to print and keep it close by.

Here are three songs by the same artist. So....I was listening to the album while working and realized no one had brought him into play.

She's got a way about her
I don't know what it is
But I know that I can't live without her
She's got a way of pleasin'
I don't know what it is
But there doesn't have to be a reason anywhere
She's got a smile that heals me
I don't know why it is
But I have to laugh when she reveals me
She's got a way of talkin'
I don't know why it is
But it lifts me up when we are walkin' anywhere
She comes to me when I'm feelin' down
Inspires me without a sound
She touches me and I get turned around
She's got a way of showin'
How I make her feel
And I found the strength to keep on goin'
She's got a light around her
And everywhere she goes
A million dreams of love surround her everywhere
She's got a smile that heals me
Oh I don't know why it is
But I have to laugh when she reveals me anyway

When you look into my eyes
And you see the crazy gypsy in my soul
It always comes as a surprise
When I feel my withered roots begin to grow
Well
I never had a place that I could call my very own
But that's alright
my love
'cause you're my home
When you touch my weary head
And you tell me ev'rything will be alright
You say
use my body for your bed
And my love will keep you warm throughout the night
Well I'll never be a stranger and I'll never be alone
Wherever we're together
that's my home
Home can be the Pennsylvania Turnpike
Indiana's early morning too
High up in the hills of California
Home is just another word for you
If I travel all my life
And I never get to stop and settle down
Long as I have you by my side
There's a roof above and good walls all around
You're my castle
you're my cabin and my instant pleasure dome
I need you in my house 'cause you're my home

If you search for tenderness
It isn't hard to find
You can have the love you need to live
But if you look for truthfulness
You might just as well be blind
It always seems to be so hard to give
Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you
I can always find someone
To say they sympathize
If I wear my heart out on my sleeve
But I don't want some pretty face
To tell me pretty lies
All I want is someone to believe
I can find a lover
I can find a friend
I can have security
Until the bitter end
Anyone can comfort me
With promises again
I know, I know
When I'm deep inside of me
Don't be too concerned
I won't ask for nothin' while I'm gone
But when I want sincerity
Tell me where else can I turn
Because you're the one that I depend upon

Cheers!

Lala, great poem, I especially love the lines:

It's in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style

You never cease to amaze me with the depth of your reading, the fact that you are reading Lao Tsu was also quite impressive. All this and such a sultry look about you, and such feistiness!

Pretty songs Jennifer, you are so sweet to contribute.

She takes just like a woman, yes, she does
She makes love just like a woman, yes, she does
And she aches just like a woman
But she breaks just like a little girl.

Some Dylan likes I was thinking about today, I always loved them.

"While there is a lower class, I am in it; while there is a criminal element, I am of it; while there is a soul in prison, I am not free."
-Eugene V. Debs

"Those would make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

And a couple favorite quotes.

Reeversmom - doesn't that just describe the beauty and yet torment of love?

Lala - Black Magic Woman makes me think of Evil Woman by ELO:

You made a fool of me, but them
broken dreams have got to end
Hey woman, you got the blues, cos'
you ain't got no one else to use
There's an open road that leads
nowhere, so just make some
miles between here and there
There's a hole in my head where the rain comes in
You took my body and played to win
Ha ha woman it's a cryin' shame
But you don't have anyone else to blame
...But a fool and his money soon go
seperate ways
And you found a fool lyin' a daze......
You destroyed all the virtues that the
Lord gave you
......I came runnin every time you cried
Thought I saw love smilin' in your
eyes
Ha ha very nice to knw that you
ain't got no place left to go.

AND

You're sailing softly through the sun
in a broken stone age dawn you
fly, so high, I get a
Strange magic, oh what a strange magic
Oh it's a strange magic, got a strange
magic
Got a strange magic
You're walking the meadows in my mind
Making waves across my time
......Oh, i'm never gonna be the same again
Now, I've seen the way it's got to end
Sweet Dream, Sweet Dream

Quotes:

"If you can still look up when you're down on your back, you can get up!!"

"Life is full of surprises and interesting things everyday. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying" - My own quote. I say this a lot!

"If my heart can become pure and simple like that of a child, I think there probably can be no greater happiness than this" - innocence is bliss!

Great words you guys!  Jennifer such great songs and quotes!

City girls just seem to find out early
How to open doors with just a smile
A rich old man
And she won't have to worry
She'll dress up all in lace and go in style
Late at night a big old house gets lonely
I guess ev'ry form of refuge has it's price
And it breaks her heart to think her love is
Only given to a man with hands as cold as ice
So she tells him she must go out for the evening
To comfort an old friend who's feelin' down
But he knows where she's goin' as she's leavin'
She is headed for the cheatin' side of town
You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin eyes
On the other side of town a boy is waiting
With fiery eyes and dreams no one could steal
She drives on through the nice anticipating
'Cause he makes her feel the way she used to feel
She rushes to his arms,
They fall together
She whispers that it's only for awhile
She swears that soon she'll be comin' back forever
She pulls away and leaves him with a smile
You can't hid your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't now way to hide you lyin' eyes
She gets up and pours herself a strong one
And stares out at the stars up in the sky
Another night, it's gonna be a long one
She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry
She wonders how it ever got this crazy
She thinks about a boy she knew in school
Did she get tired or did she just get lazy?
She's so far gone she feels just like a fool
My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things
You set it up so well, so carefully
Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things
You're still the same old girl you used to be
You can't hide your lyin eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
Honey, you can't hide your lyin' eyes

my favorite Eagles song.

Here are two things for someone very special to me: Obviously Alice Cooper for the first, the second is easy.

[script removed] [script removed] [script removed] [script removed]

Your cruel device
Your blood, like ice
One look could kill
My pain, your thrill
I want to love you but I better not
Touch (dont touch)
I want to hold you but my senses
Tell me to stop
I want to kiss you but I want it too
Much (too much)
I want to taste you but your lips
Are venomous poison
Youre poison running through my
Veins
Youre poison, I dont want to
Break these chains
Your mouth, so hot
Your web, Im caught
Your skin, so wet
Black lace on sweat
I hear you calling and its needles
And pins (and pins)
I want to hurt you just to hear you
Screaming my name
Dont want to touch you but
Youre under my skin (deep in)
I want to kiss you but your lips
Are venomous poison
Youre poison running through my veins
Youre poison, I dont wanna
Break these chains
Poison
One look could kill
My pain, your thrill
I want to love you but I better not
Touch (dont touch)
I want to hold you but my senses
Tell me to stop
I want to kiss you but I want it too
Much (too much)
I want to taste you but your lips
Are venomous poison
Youre poison running through my
Veins
Youre poison, I dont wanna
Break these chains
Poison
I want to love you but I better not
Touch (dont touch)
I want to hold you but my senses
Tell me to stop
I want to kiss you but I want it too
Much (too much)
I want to taste you but your lips
Are venomous poison, yeah
I dont want to break these chains
Poison, oh no
Runnin deep inside my veins,
Burnin deep inside my veins
Its poison
I dontt wanna break these chains
Poison

And a poem for the same person:

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

one more, but you will not be able to google this one

Speak softly when you speak of her

she is  by radient sunbeams kept

of all things soft, of gossamer

the morning dew knows where she slept.

One last thing, this is just pretty and I love the words:

"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are.

Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.
- Captain Corelli's Mandolin. "Love is the beauty of the soul."

This song says so much in a very effortless way:

Unforgettable- Nat King cole

Unforgettable, thats what you are
Unforgettable though near or far
Like a song of love that clings to me
How the thought of you does things to me
Never before has someone been more

Unforgettable in every way
And forever more, thats how youll stay
Thats why, darling, its incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too

Lala, very lovely and very touching and it does bring back memories for me. It is great you can love some of the older music. Someone very close to me was like that, she had not been in the country a long time and all she knew were people like Nat King Cole, and Sinatra and the Beatles of course. She had her own musical interests from her native land, but sometimes when she heard people like Dylan or Paul Simon, it was the first time for her and she would just adore the words and music and they were very special to her.She and I were alike in that way, when we love, we love deeply. You resemble her more than you can know but I hope you just take that as a compliment.

In gloomy dark of isolation,
My days were gradually moved,
Without faith and inspiration,
Without tears, life, and love.

My soul awoke with decision:
And you again came as a blest,
Like an enchanting fleeting vision,
A spirit of the pure grace.

My heart beats on in resurrection --
It has again for what to strive:
Divinity and inspiration,
Life, tears, and eternal love.
