I have heard that song before Cinnamon. Great choice.

I think Jennifer likes some country music and sings some. Although I have asked her to never sing it in my presence, I might make an exception for a George Strait song. Then again if she were wearing a short black dress, I might not hear it anyway.

Someone just mentioned Limoncello to me. I have been meaning to try that, it sounds like a great summer drink and I am ready for a steak on the barbie and a drink, or four , or five.

I will leave you with a song about Tennessee Cinnamon. By the Austin Lounge Lizards.

(Hank Card)
Do not go to Tennessee
That is what my Daddy said
But I knew Daddy was a fool
I listened to myself instead
Do not go to Tennessee
'Cause it would be a big mistake
They will treat you like a dog
And never give you a fair shake
I was going out to Nashville; I was gonna be a star
I would have my name inlaid between the frets of my guitar
My videos would play on TNN and CMT
And the fans at Opryland would stand in line for me
And so I went to Tennessee
I was successful right away
I wrote a tune with Mr. Big
I got a deal with MCA
It was a Number One Hit Song
Although it took a week or two
Sometimes the wait seemed mighty long
Lord knows you've got to pay your dues
When I go back to Oklahoma
Everybody says, "Ooowee!"
Who would have thought a kid like that
Could be on nationwide tv?
I bought my Daddy a new home
Out on Lake of the Cherokee
He calls me on his mobile phone
To say he's glad I went to Tennessee

Greg where do you find these songs?

She drove a big ol' Lincoln with suicide doors
And a sewing machine in the back
And a light bulb that looked like an alligator egg
Was mounted up front on the hood

And she had an Easter bonnet that had been signed by Tennessee Ernie Ford
And she always had saw dust in her hair
And she cut two holes in the back of her dress
and she had these scapular wings
That were covered with feathers and electrical tape
And when she got good and drunk
She would sing about Elkheart, Indiana
Where the wind is strong and folks mind their own business

And she had at least a hundred old baseballs that she'd taken from kids
And she collected bones of all kinds
And she lived in a trailer under a bridge
And she made her own whiskey and gave cigarettes to kids
And she'd been struck by lightning seven or eight times
And she hated the mention of rain

And she made up her own language
And she wore rubber boots
And she could fix anything with string
And her lips were like cherries
And she was stronger than any man
And she smelled like gasoline and Rootbeer Fizz
And she put mud on a bee sting I got at the creek
And she gave me my very first kiss
And she gave me my very first kiss

Talking 'bout my little Kathleen
She's just a fine young thing
Someday she'll wear my ring
My little Kathleen

Here is one you might not know so well.

That is an unusual song JJ but only Tom Waits writes like that but nice try lol.

We have not delved into blues much yet, some JJ Cale....

If I'm standing in a crowd, call my name, call it loud
Don't go to strangers, woman, call on me
Wave your arms in the air, let me know that you're there
When in doubt, oh woman, call on me
Don't leave me here to rust, don't let me turn to dust
Oh, woman, when in doubt, call on me
If I'm standing in a crowd, call my name, call it loud
Don't go to strangers, woman, call on me

Yesterday I began some preliminary sketches for a statue and would like to thank Kelly and JJ for their assistance as models. Jennifer is out of town for the weekend so I am holding off on working on the face and other pertinent areas for which she is the inspiration. Today I meet with Diane (past AA member) who has the correct height and frame for the design.  With JJ's help we will do the statue in clay then it will be turned over to a friend who uses the lost wax process. The final product will be bronze.

The statue is going to be at the center of a garden with six brick paths projecting outward, it will be visible as you start down any path so every angle is important. My other thought was to have it beneath a trellis or arbor but my client perferred this design.

In the meantime I have to get to work on a wedding arbor. I have done only a few of these in the past but they are fun short term projects.

On the grill I have been known to do grilled peaches, salmon, asparagus, even corn on the cob. But with steaks I do grilled potatoes with garlic and chives. Lightly roasted in some olive oil till golden brown. I use a small contraption to contain such things that has smaller grill openings and just lays over the main grill. I have also been known to do beer can chicken, slathered in dijon mustard or a dry rub. I also do cabbage with, onion and cauliflower, rolled up in aluminum foil with butter on the inside. MMMMM
By the way i am going to make my own limoncetto as long as i can by 95% grain alcohol, I am in business.
Is it lunch time yet lol?

hello everyone..im ivet and its nice to meet you all..this is my favorite song lately..has beautiful words :)

Well I just heard the news today
It seems my life is going to change
I closed my eyes, begin to pray
Then tears of joy stream down my face
With arms wide open
Under the sunlight
Welcome to this place
I'll show you everything
With arms wide open
Well I don't know if I'm ready
To be the man I have to be
I'll take a breath, take her by my side
We stand in awe, we've created life
With arms wide open
Under the sunlight
Welcome to this place
I'll show you everything
With arms wide open
Now everything has changed
I'll show you love
I'll show you everything
With arms wide open
If I had just one wish
Only one demand
I hope he's not like me
I hope he understands
That he can take this life
And hold it by the hand
And he can greet the world
With arms wide open...

HI love_my_pets and welcome also. If Greg gets out of line just smack him on the nose with a rolled up newspaper, if that does not work, aim lower! He is a doll and you must be a great person for him to speak so highly of you.

Ivet here is the old Irish song I was trying to describe to you earlier:

Kelly and JJ have both had the misfortune to hear me sing it.

GRACE

As we gather in the chapel here in old Kilmainham Jail
I think about these past few weeks, oh will they say we've failed?
From our school days they have told us we must yearn for liberty
Yet all I want in this dark place is to have you here with me

Oh Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger
They'll take me out at dawn and I will die
With all my love I place this wedding ring upon your finger
There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye

Now I know it's hard for you my love to ever understand
The love I bare for these brave men, the love for my dear land
But when Pádraic called me to his side down in the GPO
I had to leave my own sick bed, to him I had to go

Oh, Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger
They'll take me out at dawn and I will die
With all my love I'll place this wedding ring upon your finger
There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye

Now as the dawn is breaking, my heart is breaking too
On this May morn as I walk out, my thoughts will be of you
And I'll write some words upon the wall so everyone will know
I loved so much that I could see his blood upon the rose.

Oh, Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger
They'll take me out at dawn and I will die
With all my love I'll place this wedding ring upon your finger
There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye
For we must say goodbye

Ivet you do not want Greg singing that song to you ever. It is so beautiful and so sad, I cannot see the words without crying.

What makes it so sad is the fact it is a true story.

Here is something more cheerful:

Finnegan's Wake

Tim Finnegan lived in Walkin' Street
A gentleman, Irish, mighty odd;
He had a brogue both rich and sweet
And to rise in the world he carried a hod.
Now Tim had a sort of the tipplin' way
With a love of the whiskey he was born
And to help him on with his work each day
He'd a "drop of the cray-thur" every morn.

cho Whack fol the darn O, dance to your partner
Whirl the floor, your trotters shake;
Wasn't it the truth I told you
Lots of fun at Finnegan's wake!

One mornin' Tim was feelin' full
His head was heavy which made him shake;
He fell from the ladder and broke his skull
And they carried him home his corpse to wake.
They rolled him up in a nice clean sheet
And laid him out upon the bed,
A gallon of whiskey at his feet
And a barrel of porter at his head.

cho:

His friends assembled at the wake
And Mrs. Finnegan called for lunch,
First they brought in tay and cake
Then pipes, tobacco and whiskey punch.
Biddy O'Brien began to bawl
"Such a nice clean corpse, did you ever see?
"O Tim, mavourneen, why did you die?"
Arragh, hold your gob said Paddy McGhee!

cho:

Then Maggie O'Connor took up the job
"O Biddy," says she, "You're wrong, I'm sure"
Biddy she gave her a belt in the gob
And left her sprawlin' on the floor.
And then the war did soon engage
'Twas woman to woman and man to man,
Shillelagh law was all the rage
And a row and a ruction soon began.

cho:

Then Mickey Maloney ducked his head
When a noggin of whiskey flew at him,
It missed, and falling on the bed
The liquor scattered over Tim!
The corpse revives! See how he raises!
Timothy rising from the bed,
Says,"Whirl your whiskey around like blazes
Thanum an Dhul! Do you thunk I'm dead?"

Ivet the only time I get to try to sing it is on St Patricks day and then a few drinks do not hurt, as well as a copy of the lyrics.

Standing on the corner, suitcase in my hand
Jack is in his corset, Jane is her vest
And me, I'm in a rock'n'roll band
Ridin'a Stutz Bearcat, Jim
You know, those were different times
Oh, all the poets, they studied rules of verse
And those ladies, they rolled their eyes
Sweet Jane, sweet Jane, sweet Jane

I'll tell you something, that Jack, he is a banker
And Jane, she is a clerk
And both of them save their monies
And when they come home from work
Ooh, sittin' down by the fire
Oh, the radio does play
The classical music, said Jim, the `March of the Wooden Soldiers`
All you protest kids, you can hear Jack say, get ready
Sweet Jane, come on, baby
Sweet Jane, sweet Jane

Some people, they like to go out dancing
Other peoples, they have to work
Just watch me now
And there's some evil mothers
Well they're gonna tell you that everything is just dirt
You know, that women never really faint
And that villains always blink their eyes
And that, you know, children are the only ones who blush
And that life is just to die
But anyone who ever had a heart
Oh, they wouldn't turn around and break it
And anyone who's ever played a part
Oh, they wouldn't turn around and hate it

Sweet Jane, sweet Jane, sweet Jane ...

Ivet Greg turned me on to Lou Reed, this has become my favorite song.

I really care a lot
although I look like I do not
Since I was shot
there's nobody but you
I know I look blase (NOTE: blase - e with acute)
party Andy's what the papers say
At dinner I'm the one who pays
for a nobody like you
Nobody but you
a nobody like you
Since I got shot
there's nobody but you
Won't you decorate my house
I'll sit there quiet as a mouse
You know me I like to look a lot
at nobody but you
I'll hold your hand and slap my face
I'll tickle you to your disgrace
Won't you put me in my proper place
a nobody like you
Sundays I pray a lot
I'd like to wind you up and paint your clock
I want to be what I am not
for a nobody like you
The bullet split my spleen and lung
the doctors said I was gone
Inside I've got some shattered bone
for nobody but you
Nobody but you
a nobody like you
Shattered bone
for nobody but you
I'm still not sure I didn't die
and if I'm dreaming I still have bad pains inside
I know I'll never be a bride
to nobody like you
I wish I had a stronger chin
my skin was good, my nose was thin
This is no movie I'd ask to be in
with a nobody like you
Nobody like you
a nobody like you
All my life
It's been nobodies like you

Another Lou Reed song.

A classic  Sting

Roxanne lyrics

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night

Roxanne
You don't have to wear that dress tonight
Walk the streets for money
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light

I loved you since I knew you
I wouldn't talk down to you
I have to tell you just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy
I know my mind is made up
So put away your make up
Told you once I won't tell you again
It's a bad way

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light

Greg I am sending some pictures that might help with your statue. I should be around later.

JJ this is one of my favorite sting songs:

After The Rain Has Fallen

The palace guards are all sleeping
Their fires burn into the night
There's a threat of rain on the dark horizon
And all that's left is a quarter moon of light

He climbs up through the darkness
No weapon but his surprise
The greatest thief in the high Sahara
Enters the room where a sleeping princess lies

All your money, your pretty necklace
This is my work on such a night
There's a storm coming over the mountain
I'll be gone long before the morning

After the rain has fallen
After the tears have washed your eyes
You find that I've take nothing, that
Love can't replace in the blink of an eye

He was as gentle as the night wind
As no lover had been before
And the rings she wore for her bride groom
Slipped from her fingers and fell to the floor

Take me with you, take me with you
Before my lonely life is set
I've been promised to another
To a man I've never even met

After the rain has fallen
After the tears have washed your eyes
You'll find that I've take nothing, that
Love can't replace in the blink of an eye
After the thunder's spoken, and
After the lightning bolt's been hurled
After the dream is broken, there'll
Still be love in the world

She said take me to another life
Take me for a pirate's wife
Take me where the wind blows
Take me where the red wine flows
Take me to the danger
Take me to the life of crime
Take me to the stars
Take me to the moon while we still have time

After the rain has fallen
After the tears have washed your eyes
You'll find that I've taken nothing, that
Love can't replace in the blink of an eye

After the thunder's spoken, and
After the lightning bolt's been hurled
After the dream is broken, there'll
Still be love in the world
Still be love in the world

I know this is a little belated but thanx for the welcome daisy smile! And here's some more for you, my dad raised me on doc watson so i'm a lil country still, this has been one of my favorite's since I was a little girl (mostly cause it has to do with a horse).

Tennessee Stud

Along about eighteen twenty-five,
I left Tennessee very much alive.
I never would have got through the Arkansas mud
If I hadn't been a-ridin' on the Tennessee Stud.
I had some trouble with my sweetheart's pa,
And one of her brothers was a bad outlaw.
I sent her a letter by my Uncle Bud,
And I rode away on the Tennessee Stud.

The Tennessee Stud was long and lean,
The color of the sun, and his eyes were green.
He had the nerve and he had the blood,
And there never was a horse like the Tennessee Stud.
One day I was riding in a beautiful land
I run smack into an Indian band
They jumped their nags with a whoop and a yell
And away we rode like a bat out of hell.
I circled their camp for a time or two,
Just to show what a Tennessee horse can do.
The redskin boys couldn't get my blood,
'Cause I was a-riding on the Tennessee Stud.

We drifted on down into no man's land,
We crossed that river called the Rio Grande.
I raced my horse with the Spaniard's foal
'Til I got me a skin full of silver and gold.

Me and a gambler, we couldn't agree,
We got in a fight over Tennessee.
We jerked our guns, and he fell with a thud,
And I got away on the Tennessee Stud.

I got just as lonesome as a man can be,
Dreamin' of my girl in Tennessee.
The Tennessee Stud's green eyes turned blue
'Cause he was a-dreamin' of a sweetheart, too,

We loped right back across Arkansas;
I whupped her brother and I whupped her pa.
I found that girl with the golden hair,
And she was a-riding on the Tennessee Mare.

Stirrup to stirrup and side by side,
We crossed the mountains and the valleys wide.
We came to Big Muddy, then we forded the flood
On the Tennessee Mare and the Tennessee Stud.

A pretty little baby on the cabin floor,
A little horse colt playing 'round the door,
I love that girl with the golden hair,
And the Tennessee Stud loves the Tennessee Mare.

Hi, everyone! Wow! You've been busy and covered many a topic here. I love the country music talk! LOL

Welcome to Ivet and Four Piggies!

I was in Dallas for my best friend's wedding this weekend and it was a wonderful time and lovely evening. Of course I wrote my MOH speech in January and then rewrote it at least 20 times from last Thursday to the moment I spoke. As a writer/speaker you're never quite happy until you're inspired by something. This is what inspired my speech and speaks so much of my two friends.

"“Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get - only with what you are expecting to give - which is everything" --Katharine Hepburn

I found some others by her as well:

“Enemies are so stimulating.”

“I never lose sight of the fact that just being is fun.”

“Life is hard. After all, it kills you.”

“Someone asked someone who was about my age: "How are you?" The answer was, "Fine. If you don't ask for details."”

"Acting is the most minor of gifts. After all, Shirley Temple could do it when she was four.”

“Trying to be fascinating is an asinine position to be in.”

"It's life, isn't it? You plow ahead and make a hit. And you plow on and someone passes you. Then someone passes them. Time levels.”

"Being a housewife and a mother is the biggest job in the world, but if it doesn't interest you, don't do it - I would have made a terrible mother.”

"My greatest strength is... common sense. I'm really a standard brand - like Campbell's tomato soup or Baker's chocolate.”

“It would be a terrific innovation if you could get your mind to stretch a little further than the next wisecrack.”

"The average Hollywood film star's ambition is to be admired by an American, courted by an Italian, married to an Englishman and have a French boyfriend.”

Hope you all had a nice weekend!

Jennifer
