Come meet some of the cats from The Great Kitty Rescue. Please tell your family, friends, and anyone you know who is looking to adopt a cat or dog to join us 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18 at
South Bark Dog Wash, 2037 3oth Street. The Great Kitty Rescue is the largest cat rescue in history. Over 800 cats were stranded in the Nevada desert near Death Valley last year and rescued by Best Friends Animal Society from a horrendous institutional hoarding situation. Over 600 of these cats have been reunited with their owners, adopted, fostered or taken in by rescue groups across the country - a strong testament to the great work of the people at Best Friends and the 500+ volunteers who have stepped up to assist in this effort and continue to do so. I have worked closely with the cats that survived this ordeal and they are the most amazing and resilient cats around. Some of the cats that are very close to everyone’s hearts are cats like Handsome Devil who lives up to his name: a sleek, gorgeous black cat with a mellow personality. Hard to believe less than a year ago he was literally a skeleton when he was rescued. But, Handsome Devil, and several of his cat friends have a misunderstood and wrongly feared autoimmune disease called FIV or feline immunodeficiency virus. FIV+ cats can live healthy, happy lives for many years when properly cared for. They can even live with non-FIV cats with very little risk of spreading the disease, and FIV cannot be transmitted to humans or dogs. Help shatter the myth that FIV cats are unadoptable. Come meet Handsome Devil and his friends. Learn more about FIV and how you can bring one of these amazing, adorable kids into your family’s life. There will be loveable dogs and cats of all sizes and shapes from Best Friends Animal Society, which operates the nation’s largest no-kill companion animal sanctuary at the adoption event at South Bark Dog Wash. Each one of them comes with their own story to tell their new families. |
