I have read everything there is to read about keeping the dog on short leash and in a sit position while greeting someone at the door but with two and me the only human, it is next to impossible. I don't get alot of company so they just go crazy when someone comes over. Any suggestions, Ret

Grey - can't really help, but maybe repost your question on the Dog message board. Frank (one of the members thats a dog trainer) has answered questions there in the past. (maybe he only read there or got lost with the changes on the boards like I did )

If you want a dog to perform in a certain way, it must be practiced. You cant do it " real time" in the beginning. Start with 1 dog at a time. make him sit and stay . open the door , pause, close it , praise him for staying. if he breaks the stay, close the door and reposition him in the same spot you originally put him. when they do this without correction, or repeating, go to step 2. either both together, or 1 at a time and have someone ring the bell.remember, you are not correction for jumping, you are correcting for breaking the sit stay!

To be fair to the dogs, your guests can not pet your dogs unless they re sitting.
