Ok so i have a dog named Gypsie and she is a sheltie chow mix and i am trying to deside on what to feed her. now seeing how we don't have alot of money that narrows alot of foods out but i have been looking into alot of foods and have found the blue buffalo but it is still kina pricey, i let Gypsie eat some of the blue bufflalo wilderness canned food and she loved it, i had been feeding her Purina One dry food but compairing it to blue buffalo it falls short in all but one thing. Now i have also looked into innova and i love that one i wish i could get it but it is pretty pricey. for the blue buff it is $15.00 for 6 lbs  i have found a site that has the innova but then its $10.00 to $15.00 for shipping. can you guys give me some tips on some good dry dog foods. im just trying to find the best dry food for my baby. i know the best food is food you make youre self but i just dont think that will work with my family. so please any help is good ^_^

hi Cortney have you called your local pet stores and maybe grooming shops? They may carry Buffalo Blue and maybe Innova too.

Blue Buffalo isnt all that great for the price in my opinion. I would look into Canidae, Wellness, Innova, Natures Variety....

Keep in mind that while premium foods may be more money your dog will eat less so it works out the same.

If my 80lb active springer ate Purina he would need about 4 cups a day. On Natures Variety Instinct he only needs 2 1/2 cups. So I would be paying less for Purina but buying more. instead he gets to eat something MUCH healthier and it shows in his coat, teeth, skin, energy, etc. And the lack of vet bills ;)

My Alaskan Malamute eats Canidae Lamb and Rice (brown rice). 40 pounds is about 45.00. They have smaller bags. Good for all life stages. You do not have to switch brands as they grow. So far so good.

I love my Alaskan Malamute "Cascades Tikaani Keetoowah" aka Tiki

Check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com and look to select a food with four or more stars.

This Company has an excellent quality dog food.  It is comparable and/or cheaper than most of the premium pet foods out there.  Consider spending a bit more for a premium food--it will help maintain your pet's health and help minimize trips to the vet $$!  They have a special now where you can get your first bag for a PENNY for the first bag plus shipping and handling.  Check it out here  You need to email or call the owner directly to receive the bag for a penny (before June 30, 2008).

An important part of maintaining your dog’s health is ensuring he eats high quality food. You want to look at a food that uses at least two sources of antibiotic free, hormone free protein such as chicken and pork meal. Meal is considered to be the single best source of protein in commercial pet foods. Pure Woof meal comes from USDA approved plants. No animal by-products.  Their grains, fruits, and vegetables are pesticide free and excellent natural sources of Omega 6 fatty acids to help keep a dog’s skin and coat healthy and shiny, as well as offering beta-carotene, Vit A, and antioxidants.

What I also like is that it also features pharmaceutical grade glucosamine. Glucosamine renews and rebuilds joint cartilage, improves joint flexibility, and helps reduce pain in arthritic dogs. Their glucosamine is added after the food is cooked to ensure your pet receives a maintenance dose each time he eats. It's manufactured in the USA and has never been affected by any food recall!

My dog has been doing great on this stuff and I highly recommend it to anybody.

They even have a Bottomless Bag program and can have your food delivered, every month, right to your door.  Gas is expensive.  They even let you try the food at 100% no risk.
