| Oct 1 Written by:aajoanne Wednesday, October 01, 2008 Kwndog came up with a great idea to help fellow pet lovers who are dealing with the loss of a pet.
Every night at 8:00pm we will honor a pet who has crossed the Rainbow Bridge and help their parents heal by lighting a candle in their memory. If you'd like to join our celebration, simply add your name to the list in the Candles for Our Care forum, light a candle at home and think about the pet who has passed. We hope this show of stregth and compassion will help greiving pet parents deal with their loss. Go to Candles for Our Care Tags: 74 comments so far...

Re: Candles for Our Care
Thank you Bear and his Mom for sharing your lives with us, and starting this forum. What a love!!
Tonight we are signing for another friend, Ben. He is greatly missed, so we need all the light we can get to help his family now. By signing for one pet a night, hopefully the parent/s will feel the support and strength sent.

Re: Candles for Our Care
I think this idea is great. I lost 2 of my boys a few years ago and it still hurts. There are times when I still cry over them. Especially when I look at their mom and brothers. You're a great person for starting this. R.I.P. Eddie and Saki.

Re: Candles for Our Care
Kathryn (kwndog), Thank you for putting this forum together! You are one of a kind! You allowed me to share Bear with others and showed me how many people can really care without knowing either Bear and myself personally! Letting pet parents share the lives of their pets (kids) with others does ease the pain a little...
Again thanks for thinking of this great idea!

Bo Crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Friday, Sept 5th ...Taking with him a piece of my heart which will soon be filled with the smiles of so many wonderful , loving memories. I could never call him a dog... just a very hairy child of mine. Michael Patrick O'Hara .... hoping the tears go away soon

Re: Candles for Our Care
Saying good bye to these sweet friends and family members is one of the hardest things we do. We miss them terribly, each and every one is special and loved for the sweet babies that they are. I miss each one that has gone over, every day. We nearly lost our Koty Sunday night and it brought back all of the memories of past fur kids. I'm thankful that he is doing a little better and we have more time with him. Paying tribute to them is a wonderful idea. My heart goes out to all that have lost their friends.

Re: Candles for Our Care
For the ones still here, we will never stop trying to find you, save you and hopefully find you all forever families. ...that is so true. It is an honor to recognize and pay tribute to individual pets who have passed, and we will continue to do that. One day next week, though, we want to do a Candles page just for ALL the animals lost, either to Mother Nature's wrath or because they accidentally got loose and could not get back home. I am searching for a 12 year old Golden right now- who, according to the lost poster I saw, slipped out by accident and hasn't been seen since 9/30. So let's remember ALL lost pets~ and until we honor them together, keep them in your hearts.

Re: Candles for Our Care
Bernersrock you are in my thoughts and prayers tonight - I received your wonderful email and you never have to thank any of us - we are all your friends now. Our pets are for all of us - ( I know Whimper and Woo would love hundreds of mommy's & daddy's to lick and have fun with ) they never get tired of the attention. I have been reading about all the lost pets, deceased, etc .... and all the horrible ways they have gone. Some suffering, some tragically, some getting old naturally which is wonderful - but all of us our making these fur kids a part of all of our lives. I just love that Kathryn has this site for all of us to share and I am happy to be a part of it. I also have been learning a lot of how animals are just like people when they are at there ends. And I hate to say this, but some of us take a pet passing harder than humans - its that unconditional love and that 24 hr care you have always provided for that companion. But also its the care and love they have given us, which is so hard to let go of.
I will have Tango's candle burning till midnight, but Ihis light will burn forever in our hearts.

Re: Candles for Our Care
I know that all my "kids" waiting at the bridge are having the best of care. My mom was there to greet them or went to be with those who were already there. She would be the spirit welcoming all of them. Like me, she believed that to spend eternity in the company of our dearly departed companion animals really is heaven.

I live in San Antonio, TX and belong to a group called SAPPY. It is a support group that meets on the last Tue. of the month & we share our pictures, our memories, and our tears, and give comfort and love to those who are grieving. In December we are having the 6th annual Tribute to Tails for all the pets that have passed over the Rainbow Bridge in the past year or some that passed several years before. At our Tribute to Tails, we bring our animals to the church too.

Re: Candles for Our Care
Colleen, Jyoti and Miss Callie saying prayers Mon pm for Barbara and Teva. A short sweet story for you Barbara; when I found out my 40 yr old sister was iterminally ll, I lovingly asked her to send me a sign when she got to Heaven. Since I was the youngest, she always used to tease me so I expected her sign to be something like a small stick hitting me over the head! But no - as we left NY on the 3rd day after her passing on a sad rainy December day, a small double rainbow appeared in the sky for less than a minute as we crossed the bridge out of the city. So bless you and your loved ones both big and small! You will see your loved ones again:*) ps Am having trouble posting comments on forum site so I moved it to here - anyone else having trouble?

Hi Colleen, Your comments are too special not to be on the forum page...I'd be glad to tell you how to post there. The page's date is an easy clue- for example, if you get to the candles page and the last comment on page 1 is dated from three days ago, you click on ''newest'' and that takes you to the current page, which today was dated 10/6. It is a little confusing until you post- and it kind of makes sense. Email me if that doesn't work. We need you on the forum. Thank you Lucylu888- please join us there and sign your name.

Re: Candles for Our Care
Thank you for this wonderful idea. I lost my beautiful Peke-a-poo, Gidget, on Nov. 3, 1988, after a brief illness & surgery. Iy turned out to be cancer, and too far advanced for the vet to help her. She was almost 13. It is nearly 20 years, but she is still thought of, missed, and remembered every day with love, like I promised her. This is for Gidget, and all the other lost pets, and those who wait at the Rainbow Bridge, like mine does.

Re: Candles for Our Care
I know Gidget is doing well because she is peaceful & happy! What do we think of when we hear the word "HEAVEN"? A place where there is sunshine, clear blue skies, flowing rivers with cascading waterfalls, rolling hills &green grass! Perhaps trees that grow milkbones, catnip,(treats available for all our beloved babies!)& a few apples for the "HUMANS"!haha! You see I believe that God knew how very special each & every animal would be & how much they gave of themselves! The ones that did not find happiness here on earth were taken to a place where they will find all of the love & care they always deserved! Some were taken all too soon, like my precious friend "Sweet Ben"(& some of my own too!!)It matters not to us their "PARENTS", that they may have been at that age when we know its almost time, or if they have lived a shorter period(although when so young, it is sooo unfair!)we only know we want them longer! We want them to "stay" with us till we can go together! That is not lthe way it is though is it? My CoCo-Docs Mommy, My SWEETEST GIRL "LADY", passed 2 yrs ago Oct.6 & I miss her so very much and even more everyday! I sleep with her picture along with my others who have passed on, every night!! Sometimes I put them under the pillow next to me 'cause they hurt my head!! Since they were so special to us & to God, they could only be in one place that would be good enough for them! That place IS HEAVEN!! Gidget is there"Sungold" & all of "our most precious beings" are also there!!(ALL TOGETHER) They are with you in spirit,& when it is time for us to join them, we will be with them! Then we can "SEE" them again!! REALLY SEE THEM, & hug them & smother them with kisses! Until that time we have to go thru the good times & the worst of times! Knowing how much love & care we gave each other & how happy we can make their short time here is ALL THEY NEED! They were here & MADE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR LIVES!!!(& WILL AGAIN!!)Someday & "SOMEWHERE,OVER THE RAINBOW"!!! P.S. Everyone, say a prayer for"MUPPY" who lost her precious doggie (not yet a yr old!!)Beautiful"NOONER"! He was shot by a horrible man who for now,got away with it!!!(FOR NOW, until I get a hold of him, that is!!!) ...All my petpal friends I light a candle everyday(that will be for all of you who need it whether we know eachother or not!) God Bless You All For ALL The Love & Compassion You Have In Your Special Hearts!!!(esp.Kathryn-kwndog & Wimperwoo!!)..Love & Prayers,Ruff-Ruff & All That Stuff!!...Johnine & Ms. CoCo-Doc too!!

Re: Candles for Our Care
I am so very happy that you started this forum on this site. It was so needed. I'm so overwhelmed I don't know what to say, really, speachless, I guess! I agree with Johnine, I know that my fur children that have passed over are in Heaven. There is no doubt in my mind. For those of you who read it, it even says so in the Bible. But really, thank you so much for this. I will definately be lighting candles and praying for all of you who are mourning and missing your fur children, even ones from long ago that have passed, because I still miss mine that have passed on. Before I knew about this forum, a few weeks ago I started a GROUP on Facebook.com called IN MEMORY OF MY PET, where you can put a picture of your pet who has passed over, and even write something. Check it out if you want, it's still in the beginning stages but I too wanted to do something for all those people who were missing their fur children. Well, that's all for now. It's almost candle time. I'm going to get a special one just for this.

Re: Candles for Our Care
Thanks so much for such a wonderful forum. I lost my beloved "Flex" 2 years ago this November 21st and I still miss him something terrible. He was my best friend for many years. My dobbie saw me thru a horrible, emotionally and physically abusive relationship. For those awful years, it was Flex and I alone, in a world we kept sheltered from family and friends. We finally got out and started our own life together, always safe and always happy. I still cry when I think about him. I have lots of wonderful memories and a heart tattoo with angel wings and his name in the middle on my ankle to always keep him close to me. I will see you again someday, Flex, never to leave your side again. Love, Mommy

Please light a candle and remember my 2 babies that went to the rainbow bridge. Chloe Ann left me in March 2006 and Chopper Ann in August 2007. I think about them often and still cannot believe they are gone. Since their deaths I have tried to give as much of my time as I can to saving and recueing other pets to honor my beloved companions. I light my rainbow candles to honor them each year at the local candlelight vigil and I honor them online at the petloss support sight. Please honor them here too. I pray for all who have lost their best friends and wish that we all had more time with these wonderful creatures. I miss you so much Chloe and Chopper and I will never forget the love and happiness you gave me. I will always have a place in my heart for you. RIP Chloe and Chopper. Love, Mom

Please light a candle for Coty and Daisy Urdiales. They had the best mom in the world who always put them first. Recently, she had to make the very hard decision to assist guiding Coty across the Rainbow Bridge to be with Daisy, as old age had taken his mental and physical abilities away. No animal should have to suffer or endure pain. I commend her strength as she had (as we all do) wanted her baby with her always but was able to rise above herself and put only his best interests first. He lived to an old age, almost 17 and a big dog at that. This was because of the great medical care she provided throughout his life. WE LOVE AND MISS YOU COTY AND DAISY. Meandtrip

Re: Candles for Our Care
For 17 yrs. a beautiful, soulfull German Shepherd named Kai filled my heart and home with his deeply intelligent presence and love. Whenever anyone commented(who hadn't met him) "I think you like your dog too much" someone always replied, "You haven't met her Kai, you won't think that after you've met him" Which I think says it all. Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him was touched by him. Although I try to celebrate his life, his absence in mine still painfully grieves me. He often sends me little reminders through my boyfriend's Shepherd by having him mimic his old behaviours. They were nothing alike and had none of the same mannerisms so it's quite blatant. When that doesn't suffice he'll visit me in my dreams to help soothe my aching heart. I'd be honored if someone would help me remember him when they light their candle as all their crossed pets will also be in my blessings.

Re: Candles for Our Care
I wish you would light a candle and remember my friends lovely Pom Preshy who went to the Bridge on October 11, 2008 while being held in her moms arms. Her mom had just found out the day before that she had a large mass in her abdomn and was emotionally dealing with how to proceed with that and then her baby just quit breathing and died in her arms. The pain is still very raw for her and she still feels like she will never heal from this heartbreak. She is doing much better than I was a little over a year ago when I lost my Pom baby to Xylitol Poisoning so I understand her pain very well. I know we will be with our babies again one day but the hole they leave in our hearts here never does get filled completely. The pain never completely goes away. The missing them never totally stops. It does get better but never totally goes away. Preshy and Brandy, your moms love you and miss you so much. You both are special Pom girls and you took a piece of your moms hearts with you when you left. We will be together again one day. WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU GIRLS.

Please remember my babies, Sheba, my 16 year old Maine Coon Cat and Gizmo, my 8 year old Shit-zu. We lost them in a house fire along with our 2 parakeets and canary. Not a day goes by that I don't remember and cherish their memories. I miss them so much and I just cannot get over the fact of how scared and alone they must have felt on that day. It has been 6 years and I still miss them and cry for them. I know they are now at peace and I know I will see them again one day, my little angels in heaven.

Re: Candles for Our Care
Today I will be remembering Cinder, my niece's great dog that passed and Big Momma, her cat that passed on to Rainbow Bridge. I am so sad for her. She is a wonderful, tireless woman that can't keep from fostering or adopting every pet she comes in contact with. G-d bless her and her animals. I'm glad this column is here, so when my doggies go to love, I can speak my heart here. I pray for all of you. Of course, you know that all your pets are waiting for you on the other side. My nurse told me that her friend is a psychic, and when her brother passed they were trying to see how he was. Well, the psychic wanted to know why a cat was following her brother around. Lucia told her psychic friend that that was the brother's cat. They are happy and free and waiting. Laura

What a beautiful way to render tribute for those that are now in the playground of angels.
For all my thieves of heart, until I can again hold you in my arms I will see you in my dreams.

Re: Candles for Our Care
I went to an animal psychic one day while I was still living in Los Angeles at the Bodhi Tree in Hollywood. I went there to find out how my Cissy was doing on the otherside. She had passed over on 12/21/06. The psychic said "She is young again." With that I knew that Cissy was fine. She was my ex-roommates cat, but I took over her care for the two years that she was with me. There were three phantom (or ghost) cats living with us: one white, one gray and one black. They were with us until one day after Cissy had passed that I realized that they were no longer with us. I realized that they were with us to wait for Cissy to pass and to help her go over Rainbow Bridge. I am now living in New York and staying with my sister. She has 7 cats and with my Martini, that makes 8. Two of her cats are getting on in age and are not doing so well. And for the past month or so I have been seeing those phantom cats again, as well as my Cissy. I guess they are here to help either one or both of the cats in their passing. Please say some prayers to St. Francis for Teddy and Rocky. Thank you.

Re: Candles for Our Care
Just want to let everyone know that I will be lighting candles for all of our furbabies tonight and saying prayers for them all. Also prayers and love go out to everyone with furbabies, over Rainbow Bridge or not. We love you all. I posted a note earlier and signed it with my real name, Carol, as I forgot to use my online name.

WINDCHIMES
What a wonderful tribute to a "forever" loved one's memory! For me, I find a special windchimes that I dedicate to each of my beloved pets that have passed on...It is a beautiful reminder of their presence whenever I hear their gentle ringing in the breeze...-and- If there is no breeze, I can simply brush by them and let them know I am thinking of them, as always! Peace & Blessings to You, All, Mike

Re: Candles for Our Care
Carol, that is nice that you sought advice and information about your pets from a psychic. Any and every communication that helps, is a good idea. Have you read Sonya Fitzpatrick, the pet psychic's books? She is also excellent- my favorite is ''What the Animals Tell Me'' Her chapter on Fond Farewells would comfort EVERY pet owner...really comforting.
Mike, I LOVE the windchime idea!! Can we borrow that and use it on the Candles forum? Or would you like to post it? That is a brilliant way to be reminded of our pets' spirit....thanks for sharing that. Kathryn

Re: Candles for Our Care
For all those who have lost a beloved furry family member my heart goes out to each and every one of you, I know what it is like to lose a companion, many years ago we had to have our dog Queenie put down as she was suffering with thes "blisters" that would apear on her hindquarters, they must have bothered her because after she would lick them they would break open & bleed, so after a few days of hoping she would go on her own we made the painful decision to have her put to sleep, I went with my dad to the vet's office, we took her into the back room put her on the table & afetr that I ran out of the office bawling like a small child and as I sat in the car still bawling I remembered all the good times and fun she & I had had as we were both growing up. All these many years later I still think of her now and then and a smile crosses my face as I remember being a little boy & having the best time playing with her. Then about 3 years ago I lost another dear friend whom I had had since he fit in the palm of my hand, his name was Max and he was an orange tabby just like his brother(they were brothers from the same litter)Scooter(who I am happy to say is still with us & as big a handful as ever, just a big overgrown kitten)as well as their adopted sister Vanity. I still miss Max to this day and can still remember the day he left while I was holding him, in my arms. To this day I am still not entirely sure what took Max but I know that whatever it was he was needed elsewhere and it was time for him to answer that call. So to anyone who says "it's just a dog" or it's just a cat" has no idea the time and energy that one puts into the care and "feeding" of these animals, they become so much more than just a dog or just a cat, they become a part of you and of your life, so that when the time comes for them to go home it is all the more difficult and painful to let go. So to all of you here I say thank you for being there for these beautiful creatures and for giving them the love & care they so deserve, as they return that love every single day...unconditionally, all they want is a home and a loving caring family. Tahnk you again to ALL of you and may your pain and hurt ease as time passes until you are once again reunited with your lost loved one(who is never actually lost)

Re: Candles for Our Care
I second that: pets are a huge part of us (animal lovers), and when the time comes to let them go...they don't ever really leave us, they live in our hearts, hopefully encouraging us to love another animal in need of a home.
