Hang on Texas!
As Ike moves in for direct hit on the Texas coast, we're hoping everyone has or is planning to evacuate with their pets. Please take a minute to read this important information from the Governor's Division of Emergency Management. In addition, follow these guidelines from the HSUS for an emergency supply kit for your pets: - A three-day supply of food and drinking water, as well as bowls, cat litter and a container to be used as a litter box.
- Current photos and descriptions of pets.
- Up-to-date identification, including an additional tag with the phone number of someone out of the area in the event the pet becomes lost.
- Medications, medical records and a first aid kit stored in a waterproof container.
- Sturdy leashes, harnesses and carriers to transport pets safely as well as blankets or towels for bedding and warmth. Carriers should be large enough to comfortably house your pet for several hours or even days.

Thank you so much for the information and I'm praying that everyone that has pets know what to do during an evacuation.

Re: We (Don't) Like Ike
Hats off and Kudos to Louisiana for their extraordinary efforts to provide protection for its furry friends and owners during Gustav! I hope people will view the ASPCA hurricane Gustav diary and donate to help defray costs! Having this service available keeps owners from facing the decision as to how to find a place that will accept their pets.

I hope that everyone with animals takes the advice from above blog. I get so angry when I hear on the news how people just leave their animals to fend for themselves. There are several animals organizations (ie. HSUS) standing by to help those with their animals.

Re: We (Don't) Like Ike
I saw on CNN where one lady that returned to her home with a camera lady for the first time, since Hurricane Ike hit and she had left her 2 lab puppies in a kennel on the floor during the storm. They were dead, they had drowned. What was she thinking of. She had a teenage son and she said they did not have the time to get them. That is not an answer ! They are our responsibility ! If you had time to put them in a kennel, then you had time to put the kennel in the truck and take them to safety. On the Hurricane channel on Direct Tv, it showed where you needed a week supply of food and water and you see, they were right. The destruction and no power is now where the towns are along the coast and the animals that were taken out of the houses, I hope that the owners remembered to get their food and some water. Or went far enough inland to get them their supplies. Then I saw where someone just left 2 dogs in the back yard of a house. So I hope that the Lord sent his angels to watch over them. People had time to leave, they probably made bad choices to hang around til the last minute.

Re: We (Don't) Like Ike
No, I do not like Ike & I was there doing rescue work! It is heartbreaking & rewarding at the same time! These animals are sooo scared & when they see us they are exhausted but seem relieved that human kindness has arrived! For others do not readily come to you, because of their fright & unfamiliar face & tone of voice!(It depends on the severity of situation they are in & for how long they are left!) They are precious & don't worry, any animal left behind will be tended to & cared for ! Just pray that they remain in deceint health until brought to safety! There are sooo many people working for their safety(so much love goes out to them & many, many prayers to protect them!)May God watch over them for they are afterall Gods Special Angels!!!(ALL OF THEM!!)To ANYONE WHO EVER THINKS TO LEAVE A PET BEHIND.........D-O-N-T!!!!! GOD IS WATCHING YOU(& SO AM I!!!!!!!!!).....Johnine....PETA.ORG& RESCUE 101
