Re: When Cats Fly
I am glad to see a picture from China of someone caring for their cat. There are actually petitions on Care2.org gaining momentum of signatures against the terrible acts done on cats in China, the petitions have videos that are very graphic. A lot of us signees, also wrote the world wide federation for animal rights and they stated they are aware of their goings on there. They finally managed to placeone animal welfare office in Bejing. Please be careful buying pet toys that are real fur from China. If you want to see the petition, it's at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/stop-the-cat-cutters

Re: When Cats Fly
I see so many of the china fur animals in stores all over and I have also seen some that don't appear to be real fur as well. I try to boycott these stores after telling them why and informing them about the fur of animals on their products. There are too many animlas, cats, dogs and other animals, being tortured and suffering every day in china, as well as every where-please do what you can to help! Thanks PetAngel for input and information on the issue of animal suffering and torture in China, for those who don't know and offering where to turn to get involved and help! Did this and human rights violations cause anyone to boycott the Olympics I wonder?! Not our country and our president I see. This Tom cat doesn't appear well cared for other than it doesn't look like it's on death door or in a cage headed for torture and slaughter...Thanks goodness!

Re: When Cats Fly
Well, I didn't watch the olympics thanks to China's terrible human & animal rights records. It makes me sick! So count me in as a boycotter. It's not much, but I too am trying to educate people about the fur farms, etc. I have been signing a lot of petitions, writing letters, & sending money to animal welfare groups trying to help with this horrible situation. I just feel so sorry for all the animals treated badly around the world & I am trying to live & be an example to others how to live a cruelty free life.

Re: When Cats Fly
Yes I agree with all of your about the China fur issue and I will sign the petition. I also refused to watch the olympics. My husband and I are also vegitarians. For the last few years we have been eliminating leather from our lives as well. Animals deserve to be treated with respect and love.

Re: When Cats Fly
Well I actually signed that Petition...seems like almost a Month ago...and about 20 othere in regards to China and their abysmal animal rights record...but then China has a horrible human rights record as well....But I truly fail to see the efficacy of not watching the olympics...I am struck by a story I read about the athletic team from Somalia, there were 2 people...They both finished last...They were both Underweight, hence undernourished and both athletes were misplaced eventwise...My point really is...that without China`s INCLUSION in international activities, NOTHING WILL CHANGE! And the Olympics are about DREAMS and PAIN and SWEAT and TEARS that bring a drean to FRUITION!

Re: When Cats Fly
To kittncat Yes, China's rotten reputation re human and animal rights did result in my family boycotting the Olympics. Sadly, I felt quite alone as it seemed there were few if any reports of any others doing this in our own media - ok pretty naive of me! I'm thrilled to read that the good people on this site did participate as well as go further every day in their personal lives to do so much for animals. All of you deserve such praise - I am glad to be on site with such a great group of people. In regards to China, make no mistakes - China will always do what is deemed best for China (look at one of their great religions and philosophers,Confucius) not what assists its credibility in the global community. I am glad to hear an animal welfare office is open yet I fear its' officials will not be heard.

Re: When Cats Fly
Very strange....a male Calico? Looks more like they are just pulling up excess belly skin and tormenting the poor animal! I know when to get out of the way when my Calico, Shelly, has her ears pinned back like that...

Re: When Cats Fly
Our family also boycotts stores that sell cat toys made from real fur! I also take the time to write the companies who make these toys too! A written letter AND email are great. Some say writing a real letter makes a bigger difference, so I do both for issues that are so important to me, and this is ONE Of them! And, I am sickened by the abuse China imposes on it's dogs and cats! I just saw news report on the Care2 pages too. We avoid buying ANY products made in China just to boycott them COMPLETELY! They need a good lesson on humane treatment of animals for sure! I don't know how they can be so cruel! IT saddens and angers me at the same time.. I feel for the animals so much.
