All the little fish swimming in the ocean better be careful! Our finicky cats are causing a run on sardines, herrings and anchovies -- and fish wasn't even part of the ancient cat's diet (remember, they were desert creatures!).
"Pampered house cats may pose a bigger risk to world fish stocks than humans, Australian researchers said on Tuesday, with gourmet felines chewing through more than two million tonnes of seafood each year."

Re: Look Out, Fish!
I had no idea that fish comsumption of cats rivals human consumption. It's interesting how cats became so associated with fish. I'm sure they love it. Mine do seem to be more interested in my dinner when there's salmon on my plate and an open can of tuna always has them appearing in the kitchen. I do give them a smidgeon of it. Cats being so olafactory oriented, maybe it's because fish is so much more heavily scented than our other meats. As far as cat food goes, I prefer chicken and rice formulas to be on the safe side. I read somewhere that tuna may be linked to urinary problems in cats. Now here's another reason to limit the fishy food. I tend to agree, though, that house cats deserve a better quality diet than some of the cheapy brands provide. Do the premium foods keep them any healthier? I thought maybe it would, but I still have some health problems with 3 of my 8 my cats. I still won't feed them crappy food, though.
