| Aug 12 Written by:aajoanne Tuesday, August 12, 2008 Wow, even our four-legged friends are getting into the Olympic spirit!
Sponsored by the Hong Kong PetMAX store, the 10 weeks of Olympets is organized not just in homage to the Beijing games, but also in an effort to draw awareness to pet health. There are Track & Field events for pups as well as a tug-of-war competition and a rope climbing event for birds. While medals will be awarded, it seems the pets are doing this for the treats alone! Re: Olympets
Well, this should help negate the illusions that the Chinese people eat all the dogs! :) This is so cute!

Re: Olympets
It seems a good idea i just hope they are not pushing and overwhelming the pets too much as they do with their athletes

Re: Olympets
After living in what is considered the second Chinatown in Queens,NY I have NO respect for how Asian people treat there animals and working at an animal shelter we regularly get dogs from them as they are NOT allowed to have large dogs in the city of China. Because of their inconsideration of their neighbors dogs have been banned in my apt. building because they leave them alone 10-12 hours aday and they don't housebreak them..

Re: Olympets
I am not good very good at writing like others I know so I have copied a letter from a member of Facebook about how China treats its dogs. I normally do not access this website anymore because the last time I posted something about the country of Korea deeming it legal to eat dog meat and asked for people to sign petitions, it became a joke to many. So on a daily basis, I try to sign on and then off just so North Shore Animal League gets it one cent a day. While doing so this afternoon, I happened across the posting about how China has its dogs into the Olympic spirit. Well, here are some words from some of my friends that can write better than I can:
It is disgusting that a country that brags about how it is the oldest civilization in the world, and has not evolved the simple values that you treat all creatures humanely. I was watching on YOUTUBE about how the Chinese people treat their animals. I'm not normally a political person and I felt really bad about the artist that used a starving dog to showcase his art, but at least he did not rip the dog apart and skin it alive unlike the Chinese, which do this very commonly, trying to make a living from animal’s fur. Science is starting to reveal to us that animals are far more intelligent than once thought. They feel pain, not just physical pain but emotional as well. My goal with this group is to get enough voices to make an impact on animal treatment. We can have a think tank on the way that we can make our voices heard at the Olympic Games. Please get as many people as you can to join this group. Also post anything that is a relevant to the topic

Re: Olympets
This is just another way for the chinese to avert our attention away from their real treatment of animals. Their fur-trade business is still thriving, just hidden for now. These poor animals are just a commodity to them. They also practice "culling", which is just another word for beating to death someone's pet or any animal loose because they might have a disease. Instead of just offering vaccinations and care. Anyone who can do this to cats and dogs, is not a caring people. So, Olympet? not really! This is also going on in Korea, No. and So.
