| Jul 31 Written by:aajoanne Thursday, July 31, 2008 Have you seen the 44 pound stray cat that was found in New Jersery? I'm not sure what she's been eating but she's surely the best-fed stray ever!
Don't you just want to scoop her up and get some extra-large cuddles, though??? "BLACKWOOD, N.J. (July 30) - Talk about New Jersey's fat cats. A 44-pound feline was found waddling around Saturday without a collar in Voorhees, and officials at the Camden County Animal Shelter hope she gets a nice -- hopefully, diet-friendly -- home." Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
It's really ashame that anyone let her gain that much weight. I've never had a cat with a weight problem that was bad. My late Elliott was only 14 pounds and my late Smokey was 18, but he was a big boy.
Biscuit I have to encourage to eat. She is 14 years old and on the thin side.
Peace...

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
I read this morning that the owner came forward and said she abandoned the cat because her house was foreclosed. Come on, she couldn't find one friend or neighbor to take care of her cat? I find that hard to believe. People are horrible.

Diet
I have a cat that weighed in at 30lbs. Medically he was all ok and then I switched the diet to Wellness Grain-free for my diabetic cat. Low and behold mr. 30lbs lost weight and now looks like a normal sized cat lol. Might want to give it a try...............

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
This is animal abuse. It's bad enough as a nation we are all getting fatter, I speak from experience, but we are responsible for the health and well being of these creatures we domesticated. If the above is true about the foreclosure, shame on the owner still! My financial situation is not the best, but I would rather leave my baby at a shelter and risk his death, than just letting him roam the streets where he has no clue how to survive and is then assured a painful death! At least at a shelter he has a chance. There's just nothing worse than a stupid human being.

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
the owner should be charged with animal abuse for letting this poor cat go as a stray.

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
What a cutie!!! That's so sad her "mother" just abandoned her. She should at least find this cutie a home and not dump her like that. Also, putting your pet in a shelter is almost as bad. The chance of euthanasia is way too high. People should remember that animals are family members, too. Most people wouldn't just dump their 4 year old cause they can't afford them. The same should ALWAYS apply for pets!
She is definitely adorable and I really hope she gets a great home.... along with the rest of the homeless pets in the world!

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
The media needs to remind people that the ASPCA has grant money out there thats available for people to work with shelters in order to provide "temporary" basis. And for peats sake people ask friends for help ! It really is heatless that a landlord would refuse to allow family pets to come with them. Anyone could find themselves in this position. . we all have to look after each other and that includes our pets !!

What a beautiful face, such a sweetie. How scary this must have been for her to just be dropped off out on the street. I think once she gets some treatment for her Diabetes, she will lose som eweight and do great, just needs to find th eright home where she's loved and taken care off. Godo luck little sweetie.

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
There is two problems here one being the weight issue. It is usually due to carbhydrates in the date (cats do not even need them) which make them gain all the weight. My kid was 23 lbs but then I switched his diet and he is down to 19 to 17. Second I understand the mother lost her home but a big affordable housing does not allow for pets. I am a renter and it takes me forever to find a place with my three hairy kids. What she did is outrages but becoming quit common.

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
The folks at work laughed about this article, but on the serious side this cat was abandoned and not necessary well taken care of when the owner had him. At that weight with whatever foods (people foods I bet) he was fed, he will be prone to arthritis and diabetes and many other illnesses. If it was a medical condition attributing to the weight, she neglected vet care.

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
The owner should have charges pressed upon her. Why couldn't she give it to a friend or the humane society? I would never let my pets go stray due to losing my home, I would live in a cardboard box with them if I had to! What is wrong with people???

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
That poor cat has been over-pampered into obesity and obviously not gone without, so how did the owner think he would survive on the street? He wouldn't know the first thing about scrounging for anything, or fending off the other animals. These people that don't try to find places to live to keep their pets are just cruel and uncaring. I couldn't just toss my babies out because of a place to live. They're family. Humans are just blockheads sometimes!

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
Well, it turns out that this cat is a boy and his owner had to give him up due to foreclosure. Here is the link from yahoo: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080801/ap_on_fe_st/odd_big_cat_found
Okay so here's the story:
BLACKWOOD, N.J. - A 44-pound cat found lumbering around New Jersey was abandoned by a woman who said her home was foreclosed, an animal shelter official said Thursday. ADVERTISEMENT
The porky white cat found Saturday became a local media sensation and was dubbed "Princess Chunk". But the animal is really a male whose name is Powder.
Jennifer Anderch, director of the Camden County Animal Shelter, said Thursday that the cat's owner came forward to describe the animal's background.
Anderch said she's received hundreds of calls from people seeking to adopt Powder.
The cat appeared Thursday on "Live With Regis and Kelly." A veterinarian on the show examined it and determine he was indeed a male.

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
I already knew the story of this abandoned fat cat. His* family lost their home to foreclosure and like thousands of pets all across the country with owners who have lost their homes she was left to fend for herself but because of her amplitude and the press he received he has had several hundred offers for a new home. But there are thousands of abandoned family pets from forclosed homes that need forever homes or fostering. So, think about it is there room for another bundle of love in your life and heart? If so I know your local shelter will be trilled to hear from you.
*It turns out she is a he.

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
I heard this story too. What a shame. I'd live in my car(it's pd for) with my 2 fur babies before I'd put them out; but then, like others in this site, I love animals. The owner should be charged with animal cruelty-you don't let your pet get like that. Medical condition? Take care of it. The SPCA has at least one commercial on foreclosure and pets-I've heard it on KYW (Phila. news station) too. I hope he gets a great home with people who love him. With all this publicity, hopefully it will open everyones eyes to the big problem of foreclosure pets. I wish Powder lots of luck and love!

Re: Don't Adjust Your Screen!
I get so upset when i hear people just leaving their pets behind. I really don't wish any bad to nobody but i really hope that person would find herself out in the streets so that why she would know how it feels to be living out in the streets. I wish the best for the cat hope he finds a very good home he really and i do mean really deserves it.
