Foreclosure Pets FundGreat news today from the Humane Society of the U.S. for families who are in danger of losing their pets due to foreclosure:

"To help keep families and pets together through foreclosures and financial crisis, The Humane Society of the United States has created a new grant program for shelters and rescue groups.

To ease the current hardships, The HSUS is offering grants to animal shelters, non-sheltered rescue/adoption groups and animal care and control agencies to help establish, expand, or publicize services or programs that assist families in caring for their pets during the current economic crisis."

Re: Foreclosure Pets Fund

This is fabulous news ! Certainly pet members of a family are an important part of resettling and should always be considered when moving to a new location !! It may be a little tight, but that's what family is all about !! Unity !!

I can't imagine anything worse than not being able to take and provide for all members of your family.

Re: Foreclosure Pets Fund

I would do anything I had to do - to keep my furkids with me. To feed them. To shelter them. To love them.
My 'shelter' is NOT a home without pets. Pets make anywhere home!!

Get this information out there!!! Let people know know there is help!!

Take care of the pets that are abandoned.
And hunt down the people that deserted them...........

Way to go, hooray, It's really so sad that people will walk away from their pets without a fight, bad carma people! This country needs more of this kind of action for the animals. Thanks Humane Society of the United States.

Re: Foreclosure Pets Fund

This is great news. I can't imagine anyone abandoning their pets. I would go live in the forest with my pets if there were no other choices left. I would never leave them.

Re: Foreclosure Pets Fund

I sent a copy of this article to my veterinarian as the article states veterinarians can obtain vouchers for those in need from the humane society for food, vet bills etc.

Re: Foreclosure Pets Fund

I think its great that your doing this. I guess the issue bugging me is... You have people who refuse to leave their house without their pets during forced weather emegency. After Katrina some shelters will take pets. I personally could not leave my pet.
Then you have people who buy a house, then let the house go. I can't imagine who would be so crule to take all their stuff and shut the door behind them leaving their pets behind. The person leaving has no idea when or if there pet will be found. I can't unstand how they can't bring them to a shelter. I bet if these people were needing food or water for themself
they would beg borrow and steal to get their needs met, but wont do it for a helpless pet!
Not one of them could have a heart. I dont see any of these people being proscuted for abandonment. Gee I better you can tell this is a issue that stirs the emotions with me.

Re: Foreclosure Pets Fund

At one time in our lives we came close to being homless. We had 3 dogs at the time. We had them from the time they were young puppies. They were our best friends. My husband and I decided that if we ended up homeless, that we would be homeless on the streets with our dogs. People that abandon their pets should be prosecuted. I would beg, borrow or steal for our fur kids, to keep and take care of them. this also is an issue that stirs me up too. THANK YOU, HUMANE SOCIETY of the USA.

I am so glad hsus has this program for the pets! I hope the jerks who are leaving their pets behind have bad luck for the rest of their lives. Way to go HSUS!
