| Jul 7 Written by:aajoanne Monday, July 07, 2008 The other day I saw a man wearing a Michael Vick jersey -- um, sorry, did he not get the memo???
This got me wondering about what happened to all of the dogs that were taken into custody last year. We know about the 22 that have found a home as Vicktory Dogs with our pals at Best Friends, but what happened to the other 25 survivors? The Washington Post followed up with the pups and has this great story of hope and triumph! "More than a year after being confiscated from Vick's property, Leo, a tan, muscular pit bull, dons a colorful clown collar and visits cancer patients as a certified therapy dog in California. Hector, who bears deep scars on his chest and legs, recently was adopted and is about to start training for national flying disc competitions in Minnesota. Teddles takes orders from a 2-year-old. Gracie is a couch potato in Richmond who lives with cats and sleeps with four other dogs." Read the Article >> Tags: 21 comments so far...

Re: What Ever Happened To....
I became sickened all over again just seeing the name Vick. It's wonderful to see that these precious dogs are finally able to have the life they deserve. I hope their abusers have the life they deserve, too! I hope that I can never understand how those people think.

Re: What Ever Happened To....
People like Michael Vick are nothing but bottom-dwelling pond scum. I see no hope for people like this. If he had a heart to start with, he never would have done what he did to these wonderful dogs. It makes me almost physically sick. When he gets out, and it's a shame that he will, I hope the NFL doesn't take him back...that would do it for me. This guy is evil and I don't think he's sorry at all for what he did.

Re: What Ever Happened To....
The punishment didn't fit the crime! "An eye for an eye"; What Vick and all his co-horts did to these poor animals should be done to them. Including electrocution, starvation and beating. Then and only then, will a REAL message be sent to all the others who still participate in this horrible act of dog fighting.

Re: What Ever Happened To....
The female pit named 7 (seven) was sadly killed a week or two ago. She got out of the fence and was hit by a car. I t was a GREAT loss for her family.
RIP 7 (SEVEN)

Re: What Ever Happened To....
I am so happy the majority of these dogs were given a second chance. Any of you from Minnesota--trying to pass a law to outlaw: pitbulls, german shepherds, dobermans, rottweilers, boxers and 2 others that I cannot remember. Please write to your state representatives and put a stop to this. There is also information about this at the ASPCA website.

Re: What Ever Happened To....
I rescued a pit bull and she is the sweetest most gentle little soul. I could not help but cry when I heard about Vick and his cruelty to those beautiful creatures. I agree, I do not believe he is a changed person at all. I think he will go right back to his evil habits again. It is a sad situation that animal abuse does not merit tougher penalties in this and other countries.

Re: What Ever Happened To....
"Ignorance Breeds Ignorance; Nueter Michael Vick"
He was never sorry for what he did, but that he was caught. That's the type of person that deserves a life sentence in jail w/ animal lovers. Let us show Vick how we take care of scum like him. I'm more for the "Eye for an Eye" theory, but our Government wouldn't accept that.
To know most of these animals are finally learning what TLC is all about warms my heart!!!

Re: What Ever Happened To....
It was very heart-warming to read that most of these dogs are living the good life now. Many tho't they couldn't be rehabilitated and put in family homes with other animals, but this just shows what love and kindness can do to a weary and beaten down heart. Some of the dogs at Best Friends are taking a little longer and have to be kept from other dogs. I read this in my Best Friends newsletter. But they are showing great improvement. I guess it may depend on how badly they were abused and for how long. People who get their entertainment from watching animals being abused are the worst kind of human and don't deserve to live, or be near another animal for as long as they do live.

Re: What Ever Happened To....
I am so happy to hear that some of the dogs, have happy lives. Bless the souls of those who did not make, it, I know that they are with God, and St. Francis, watching over the dogs that are on earth. Vick, got off , as far as I am concerned. A little stint in jail, is nothing, of course, this country will not starve, beat, or chain him. WE ARE MUCH TOO CIVILIZED, yet WE allow for this to happen, with a slap on the wrist, I am still outraged! He NEEDS a life sentence of HAVING to volunteer at dog shelters, being under STRICT supervision, with the BIG DOGS. Only then, can it even make the slightest tiniest bit of difference, for what he did. ALL his assets should go to the ASPCA, Humane Society, etc

Re: What Ever Happened To....
I'm really relieved and glad that atleast some of the poor Dogs made it to a happy loving life. I only wish I could take all that pain away and make it as if it never happened to those poor babbies. If it meant that I had to indure all their pain, I would do it to save them. It just saddens me everytime I think about their pain they went through. It's just soo over-whelming for me. As for the "Devils' little helpers," Vick and his deranged, just as stupid helpers should be neutered without numbness or pain meds along with a rusty steel knife. Also, they need to be tortured the same as did to the poor helpless loving dogs. Along with suffering in jail with people that are animal lovers and suffer muchly until death and on after death! Vick and his helpers got off. Vick will be back at it again once he is out of jail.

Re: What Ever Happened To....
I'm so glad to hear this news, in Atchison, KS there was the same thing going on and he and his woman both went to jail and all of the dogs found good homes thanks to the Humane Society there. I work with the Friends of the Animal Shelter in Saint Joseph MO we are also part of petfinder, since I stated volunteering there there has only been one bad thing happen and it was nothing like this, we got 25 dogs from a breader, thank God all but I think 2 made it, one didn't even have an eye of course they were scared to death they have never been out of their cages. We are also involved with the Woman's Prison in Lansing KS we take dogs down there that we just can't get to be frienly so will not get adopted, after those ladies work with them they come home very sweet. There is a man here in town that saves Pit Bull's, he gets them from all over, now since we can not adopt out a Pit Bull we do come up with some strange mixes.(not) that way he can get them. In order to get one of his Pits you have to spend time with him and the dog, like days, you have to pass his tests before he will let anyone have them. Great guy

Re: What Ever Happened To....
I read on BadRap that all but one of the pit bulls belonging to Micheal Vicks had been either adopted or fostered. She was just too damaged, old and sickly and had to be euthanized.
Conversely, of the beagels that were used for bait dogs, over HALF had to be put down. Again, just to damaged to go on. Sad but if I were used as bait I might have suffered the same fate.

Re: What Ever Happened To....
I sponsor one of the Vicktory dogs at Best Friends, her name is Little Red and she is precious! I own two pit bulls so this article hit very close to home. I only hope that Vick is held accountable for the rest of his life. And I thank God everyday that the judge in his case had a heart and didn't order all the dogs put down. They were the victims and at least now they are getting a chance to find a happy life. Plus, Vick was ordered to pay for their care to Best Friends and Bad Rap (as well as the other shelters that took some of the dogs) for the rest of their lives! Now hitting someone in their wallet is certainly a good way to get their attention!

Re: What Ever Happened To....
I always felt Vick got off lightly. He should have be punished with the same compassion he used to punish his dogs. People who use animals in this way are a disgrace to the human race. I hope they caught everyone involved. Michael Vick didn't act alone.
