We made a new best friend on the beach last week but were having the hardest time figuring out his breed(s)!
My guess was a Corgi/Australian Cattle Dog mix - especially because he was so concerned when the kids started horsing around in the ocean.
Can you tell what breed he is? Some other clues -- he was extremely friendly to everyone on the beach, had a very stocky build, liked to drink salt water and somehow found his way onto the tiny Hawaiian island of Molokai.
Let me know what you think!

Re: It's a Mystery
I would agree w/your assessment of his breed. Corgis are usually so outgoing and like to be right where people are. However, from the photo it is difficult to discern the length of his legs, were they stubby? Did he make any attempts to "herd" humans?
Since you found him in the Pacific, did you think about whether he had dingo in his breeding? I include that, b/c of his unusual coloring.
If you look at the photo of myself and Logan, you will see that I am quite fond of mixed breeds, Logan is Australian shepherd and Schnauzer. Glad you had a great time with him!

Re: It's a Mystery
He's absolutely an Australian Cattle Dog, or Blue Heeler. Even if his legs were stubby, he's got that blocky head, the right coloring (my Heeler is the exact same color, even has the same eye patch), the straight up ears, the Bentley's mark on his forehead (the white spot; they all have it to some degree or another)...The thing with Heelers is that they come in all shapes and sizes, but their coloring is what tips you off - that and the bat-like straight up and down ears. My mom's got a pure orange Red Heeler. But he's got those ears...and that white spot. He's a tall boy, too. =)

Re: It's a Mystery
I agree, definately Austrlian Cattle Dog or Kelpie, but maybe some Australian Shepherd thrown in?
