| Jul 7 Written by:aajoanne Monday, July 07, 2008 We just got back from vacation and the babies did great without us -- but the house is full of cat hair! Tom and Bella are five an Tux is well over that and none of them have ever shed so much. We're scratching our heads because its not much hotter than usual outside and the house is actually cooler than in summers past.
We did switch their dry food before we left but could that make such a difference in just a week? Is anyone else covered in an unusual amount of cat hair? Tags: 8 comments so far...
Re: Shedding!!!
Maybe it's that time of the year when they really shed in high quantity. I have 6 babies. Late spring and early summer is when I see an unusual amount of hair. It is now July and they are shedding much less -- i have not asked the vet about it and i probably won't. The more the babies shed, the more i clean and the more i brush them.

by the way
You left your babies alone for one week. You say that they did really well left alone. I bet you are proud. I know I would be. How much food did you leave for them and what about the water? How did you manage to leave the right amount of food and also fresh water on a daily basis?
Please do tell.

They weren't totally alone - we had a wonderful petsitter - but they were without mom & dad! :)

Re: Shedding!!!
My pups do a nervous shedding anytime we've left them at the kennel or at home with a sitter. My vet said not to worry unless it continued after we settled back home.
I know you must be happy to be back with your furry children. I'm glad they did so well.

Re: Shedding!!!
I'm with you, my two cats seem to be shedding so much more this year than the prior year and it also is cooler here this year. I'm not sure if that has something to do with it or not. I find by brushing them daily helps some but still, quite a bit of hair.

Re: Shedding!!!
I know its the only down-side having children covered in fur. My babi ceelo sheads more when he's very nervous/scared or angry. I find leaving him some treats or having someone he's coftable with check up on him helps keep him calmer. It could also be the food go to www.secrets@secret-dog-conspiracy.com its about certain foods not to feed you dog and cats that are commercial well known brands. It's changed my babys life.

Re: Shedding!!!
I think they were just nervous about you being gone. Plus having a new person coming in to take care of them. I have a cat that we almost had to tranquilize just because we moved right next door. He wasn't the same for close to a month. And the shedding was horrible. It was hard to even pick him up he was shedding so bad. Some cats, like people, just don't handle change very easily. And shedding is how we can tell. Also, if you change their food you should do it slowly. Just mix some new in with the old. Small amounts at a time until they get use to the new brand. I didn't do it slowly and shedding wasn't the only problem that came from that mistake. But we live and learn. I am glad you were able to keep them home. And didn't have to board them.
