| Jun 26 Written by:aajoanne Thursday, June 26, 2008 Sometimes I'll come across a new story that makes my lose all faith in humanity. Did you hear about the man who robbed a Texas animal shelter of $10,000?
The operators of PawMatch in Austin suspect it may have been an inside job since the robbery occurred after a successful adoption weekend -- and the robbers entered through the security gate with the proper code. Any type of crime is reprehensible, but stealing from homeless pets? Learn More About PawMatch >> Tags: 34 comments so far...
Re: What a Low Blow
people like that should be shot and left to die how dam low. If they did that in china they may be put to death better yet 5 years in a rough prison no parole thats more pun ishment i am appalled how damm low some people are these days. And all major companies paying their ceo;s more more workers get less , lose their job and gets worse animals and small children are the only innocent things left in this world and some assholes steal from the shelter.

Re: What a Low Blow
There's actually a scam that was going around last year where someone in another country or area wants a certain pet from a rescue, it goes something like this: They email/call saying that they have hired a shipper that will bring them the animal because they just fell totally in love with this pet. They tell the rescue they will send them an extra money order or check for say $2500, and the rescue should cash it, keep $500 for themselves for their trouble, and give the rest to the shipper in cash when they pick up the pet. Guess what...the money order or check is FAKE! So they're out $2500 when it bounces, and the scammer got $2000 cash. Rescues are already strapped for cash, so targeting them is so so bad. Never cash a check or money order for anyone.

Re: What a Low Blow
We can't undo the evil that some people impose upon us but I believe there is more good than bad in the world. Birdlady4 hit the nail right on the head. Let's all pitch in and make that money (and more) back for them. I'm on a fixed income but I can spare $10 toward this worthy cause. I challege all members of this website to make at least a $10 donation to them today. And, for the evil people that stole the money that was for the benefit of defenseless animals, there is a thing called karma.

Re: What a Low Blow
Is it any wonder why I think more of any animal than I do most people? If you ask me, it's a shame people can't be charged with the same charges for harming an animal in any way as they would if the animal was human. Then let them be punished accordingly. Put the human on an eight foot chain staked in the middle of nothing with no shade. See how they would like it!!! Put the human in a four foot cage and feed and water them if they are lucky every three or days. Oh yes, and then when it's time to sleep I hope they find it comforting to lay in two months worth of their own waste. See how they would like it!!! I could go on but you probably have a good idea of how I feel on this subject!!!! My thanks to all of you for caring!!! The critters deserve it!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: What a Low Blow
I donate to the Northshore Animal League, Bidawee, SPCA, Humane Society, National Wildlife Foundation and the International Wildlife Foundation. To think that someone would walk into anyplace like this and steal from homeless and needy animals is definitely a crime. I know what comes around, goes around, and the theifs will be punished for what they did, one way or another. I don't donate to these worthy organizations for wicked people to take it. No one needs it more than these beautiful animals do. Shame on them. I hope I hear they get caught and punished.

Re: What a Low Blow
This is truely awful!! I will never understand how ppl can do anything that woudl cause any sort of harm to animals. They are the most innocent and loving things on this earth and yet they endure so much pain and suffering at the hands of ppl who are supposed to help them. My heart goes out to the shelter and all the furry kids that call it home. I hope that the disgusting, insensitive jerks who did this are caught and punished to the max.

Re: What a Low Blow
Did they find out who the culprit(s) were? Problem though that any crime associated with our animals is the punishment is NEVER enough, especially with animal cruelty. It gets repeated by the same so-called owners over & over - until it's too late! Arrrgghh!

Re: What a Low Blow
People like that don't have a heart, or a brain. I too agree with Katseyes. Like the blog on Tuesday, we should lock the humans in a car on a 80 degree day with the windows rolled up, see how they like it. What goes around comes around. Karma will be back to bite them, hopefuly some dogs will too!!

Re: What a Low Blow
What a disgrace, I'm appalled and disgusted especially if it was an inside job that's even worse. I just hope that they find the thief, put his pictures throughout Austin, so everyone knows what a despicable person he/she is, and he/she better go to jail for grand theft, that's a felony. I'm disgusted with human beings.

Re: What a Low Blow
I am appalled and infuriated by this man's crime. I believe that what goes around comes around, and the culprit of this crime will sure get time in jail. Although his action was despicable, I hope this does not dissuade caring people like us to stop helping needy animals. These defenseless creatures need us no matter what the setback is.

My daughter and I were in Austin in mid May. We watched the adoption parade from our hotel window. The Pawmatch location in Del Valle said we can send donations there. SCUM BAGS!

Re: What a Low Blow
Doglover515 had the right idea. Make a donation to them and while you're at it , make a matching one to your local animal shelter. You can reach PawMatch at www. PawMatch.org there is an online donation form or an address to mail one to. Come on Animalattraction people -- if we all sent just $1.00 it would sure add up!!! I could spare $10 and have made mine now it's time for everyone to do what they can spare! I hope to see alot of comments here saying "I made my donation" from all of you.

Great idea, DogLover515. I did just that and probably would have just read this blog and said how sad but I feel like I have done something to help PAWSMatch by donating to that group. Thank you for your challenge!!

I made my 10.00 donation. :) I think people that would do something like this rank right up there with people that beat and rob homless people. They are completly dispicable.

Re: What a Low Blow
I honestly don't know what to say! How low can someone go? Obviously very low. It was an inside job too, which makes it worse, because the person knew that the shelter needed that money to help the pets get adopted, but the robber did it anyway. I'm so mad, that I don't know what to say! I pray that the police figure out who it is, & I hope the person gets a long jail sentence, whoever did it!

Re: What a Low Blow
I realize that some people on here might not believe in God, but the Bible even says to be nice to animals! Proverbs 12:10 says this: The righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel. We were put in charge of taking care of His creatures, not harming them by abusing them, or stealing from them. That man, or woman, is going to have to face up for what they did one day! Hopefully soon!

Re: What a Low Blow
I am making my donation, and also a matching one to my home shelter that I volunteer at, Tampa Bay SPCA. I also agree with all comments posted - how could someone do this to homeless animals? Donations are their source of income that allows them to continue to run the shelter. And about being disgusted with human beings (as one poster said), I feel the same way, no matter how hard I try not to. I mean, I KNOW there are still good people left in the world (all of the posters here, for example), but it is so hard because everyday there is another story (or multiple ones) related to animal abuse, crime, etc that just breaks my heart.

Re: What a Low Blow
You really wonder where these people come from.....they will never be able to understand the "human-animal" bond!! I feel sorry for them, they are missing out on a part of life that needs no explanation, to those who understand!! I just cannot understand how someone could take away innocent animals only source of income!! My heart goes out to those animals and to those who care for them!!

I'm making my $10.00 donation tomorrow when the bank opens & a matching donation to the ASPCA. They have done more for innocent & defenseless animals than any other organization I know. God bless all of those who give their voice for those who can't speak for themselves!!

Re: What a Low Blow
My dream is to own a pet kennel along with a no-kill animal shelter on-site. The no-kill shelters live on donations to keep these animals alive and healthy. After hearing about so many incidents in regards to people stealing from shelters, no one is going to want to donate to help the animals for fear of the money not being used properly or being stolen..That is really sad for these poor helpless and loveable animals who want and need good homes. I have three dogs that I have saved recently and if I could own more, I definately would. I also have a cat that I saved from being put down. All she needed was a little love and affection and she came around to liking humans. Such a sad world we have become. I pray for all the little creatures that need us so badly.

Re: What a Low Blow
now people who abuse animals are getting prison terms being fined alot of money there are more good people than bad people. Animals are so innocent kind loving it disturbs me greatly and i pray god will help this shelter and the low life slime balls who did this get prison time or worse all criminals who do a bad crime need more harsh punishment.

Re: What a Low Blow
That is the lowest ! The police should make the people responsible for this crime to do community service work at the place for the amount of hours that they stole. And if they were employees they should be fired with this on their record.

Re: What a Low Blow
I firmly believe what goes around comes around. And this person or persons will get exactly what they deserve. To think of all those homeless animals that are depending on that money to get them food, vaccinations, care. I just hope they have a supportive community that can help the shelter out, anybody know the name and address of the shelter? Anyone that could do something like that is obviously disturbed.
