Thanks to member Labdp for her contributions to our blog!

<enter_an_alt_tag_message>I'm not whining, but being away from my dogs is tough on me. They are as important as sunshine to me.

I was sitting at a delightful sidewalk cafe in the Sellwood district of Portland last evening. I was feeling pretty confident I'd get a puppy fix. The fact there was a dog bowl sitting right under a water faucet seemed like a good sign. And that it was.

If I can't be with my dogs, I want to be with someone else's dogs. I'd visited a winery earlier in the day and asked if the resident wine dog was there, but was sadly disappointed. It didn't, however, keep me from trying the wine.  In fact I tried several, it didn't produce any dogs, but it helped get me through the afternoon.

So I was thrilled to sit at this cafe, and watch the dogs out for their evening stroll. Kids and adults on bikes, people walking dogs, even a guy on a bike with his dog running along side. Life is good.

I did visit with a gal walking three dogs. Two looked exactly like black labs, until you got down to the black and white ticking on their paws. I inquired what the mix of breeds was, and she didn't know. Seems these dog's owner had recently passed away. The dogs needed a home, and she was the blessing they needed.

It soothed my soul to know kindred spirits were around and about. And seeing dogs is sometimes the next best thing to being there. Thankfully, I'm home tonight and my dog fix is complete.

Proof again, there is no place like home, or it's just dog gone good to be home.

Re: Dog Fix

This was such a great article!!! I started tearing up as I was reading it - I really enjoyed it. I know how you feel "Labdp", I enjoy watching people spending time with their animals too. I always feel guilty having to go to work in the morning and say goodbye to my 2 kitties. They always look so sad at me because I am leaving. I wish I was go well off I could just be a stay at home pet mommy and forget about work. I think I actually get along better with animals than people. I know I would rather "be" with animals than people, that is for sure. :) I also have had dogs growing up and they are just great - all the licking of the face and being jumped on - and they are soooo excited when you arrive home! I have also previously been a pet parent to fish and several guinea pigs.
My cats even welcome me in their own way when I get home. When I pull up in the apartment parking lot I can usually look up to my apartment window and see them sitting there - like they know I would be coming home soon. Then when I walk thru the door they are already sitting there waiting for me to pet them and give them a good rubbing as if to say "hey, mom were glad your home now" :) I would like to get another dog in the future - but sadly my apartment complex limits tenants on how many pets you are allowed to have, so it might be a while because my kitties are 7 yrs old and I think they are gonna be around for quite some time - which is good for me because I dont know what I would do without them and dont want to find out anytime soon.
I am such an animal lover (of all kinds) I would just love to surround my days 24/7 with nothing but animals! :)
Thanks for the article and sharing it with everyone. It was a pleasure to read and brought a big smile to my face today - great way to start off a day! :) "PAW WAVE"

Re: Dog Fix

Just wanted to tell everyone to read the new book by Garth Stein, Art of Racing in the Rain. I knew that dogs are really people in disguise. Every dog lover should read this book. I am truly looking at my dog, Mocha, in a whole different way. If you read it, please pass this message on to others. Thanks.
