| May 21 Written by:aajoanne Wednesday, May 21, 2008 Thanks to member Labdp for her contributions to our blog! Pete is going to the big city. His life has come full circle. Rural dog who was neglected, suburban dog learning the ways of life indoors, to a forever home New York City. The God's of Adoption are smiling and tails are wagging.
Second chances come when you least expect it. Just in the nick of time, guided in ways we cannot foresee.
He was all kinds of Pete during his visit with his new owners. All of the reasons I love this boy were evident. Short of racing through the house with lingerie, he showed them his many wonderful sides. Playful, curious (oh so curious!), adaptable, tolerant, quick to learn. He has come so far and has so much potential.
Luckily we are as enchanted with his new owners as they are with him. Now, all that said, he has some big changes coming up beginning tonight when he boards a plane for his new life. Big changes can be overwhelming, and he will take some time to adjust.
I trust they will be patient with him during this period, especially as they clean up an accident or two. It's bound to happen. I know they will dote on him, nurture him, encourage him.
And yes, it's hard to let him go. In a way fostering is like giving birth. We've invested a lot of ourselves in his growth. He will always be one of mine, even though is he theirs too. In the best scenario, the forever home "adopts" the foster Mom (or Dad) too. All we ask for is pictures and updates on how our pup is doing. Should we get to cross paths (and in this case we will!!) all the better.
Pete scored big. But then with his "WhatchYaDoing, CanISeeIt, IsItForMe attitude" how could he not.
I love you Pete - be good, enjoy the big city, wow them with all your Pete-ness. Tags: 13 comments so far...

Re: It's Official
Congratulations Pete and your new family!!! There are so many blessings here -- a loving foster home that gave you a strong beginning, and a loving forever home that will continue to give you the great life you deserve. And, let's not forget, a loving dog, just waiting to be adopted so he can share his love with even more people. Joanne, my heart goes out to you both with respect and admiration for what you have given to Pete and with understanding for the many feelings you must have seeing Pete go. I'm glad you will be able to stay in touch with him. You are all in my prayers tonight, which are filled with gratitude, hope and love.

Re: It's Official
CONGRATULATIONS PETE.....I just finished reading the book 'One at a Time' about a week in an American Animal Shelter. How heartbreaking...but PETE, you are lucky..you get all the benefits of a second chance...
Everyone needs to read this book....and then I truly believe there will be more 'PETE's' out there.
Blessings to all.
