| May 16 Written by:aajoanne Friday, May 16, 2008 Get the lastest from FoxNews.com about the link between salmonella in humans and dry dog food.
"An outbreak of Salmonella has been linked to contaminated dry dog food for the first time ever, said officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CDC officials said dry dog food may be an under-recognized source of illness in humans, and they are unsure how the bacteria got into the dog food. Usually, Salmonella comes from undercooked meats and eggs. “They are a number of possible ways that that could happen,” said Dr. Casey Barton Behravesh, a CDC epidemiologist, who co-authored a report on the finding. “That’s something we are still trying to figure out.” Humans became infected with Salmonella in 2006 and 2007 from dry dog food produced by Mars Petcare in Pennsylvania. Dogs were not affected, according to the May 16 issue of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, but a number of those affected were infants." Re: More Dog Food Trouble - This Time for Humans
What is going on with food sources it is getting hard to know what to buy and what is and is not contaminated anymore. It almost makes you paranoid about eating anything or feeding your pets maybe more food regulations need to be enforced.

I'am getting over a serious 2 and a half month bout of E-coli myself, and I don't even eat meat, I dont know where as of yet I got this from, but 2 rounds of antibiotics and there's still a trace! Don't know what to eat anymore!

This is actually a comment on some of the earlier comments. Regarding how Liz got E--coli, I talked to someone whose child got it from a contaminated shopping cart! And to babyandme, an infant that is crawling could get dog food just by crawling over to its dish. I remember when I was a kid eating dog food. I thought it was funny!

Re: More Dog Food Trouble - This Time for Humans
With all of the animal abuse goin on in our food supply it's really a no brainer why humans and animals are getting sick. Downer cows, baby cows made to live in torture all their lives to make veal, battery caged chickens, pigs tortured, the list is endless. All of us who are animal lovers should be aware of the horrors these animals go through for the sake of eating meat. The animals need us for thier voice. Until we stand up for animal rights, we humans and animals stand the risk of gettin very sick and or die from contaminated meat. And if thats no all, our vegetable supply is also at risk. Check out the horrors of the Montsano, company. We must protect our planet, and if we are not protecting what is going on with the animals, we are not protecting the earth. Animal abuse has an incrediblle part in the break down of our planet. We are always looking for a soultion, it's right under our noses. Wake up roesbuds. Oh one more thing, as if thats not enough, the goverment is trying to pass a bill to have all US Citizens get a mandatory DNA test. Now, what is all that about?

I'm very aware in fact of the whole shopping cart thing, I actually cringe having to touch it, seen years ago on 20/20 all the contamination on shopping carts, to include FECAL matter, it's disgusting , I dont dare put my hands by my mouth or eyes, and soon as I walk in the door , im in the bathroom scrubbing my hands. Also donot put your raw veggies in the front of the shopping cart you know where young children sit , with leaky diapers ETC. I know it's gross , but its true!!. I agree 100 percent with chinsncatnj as an animal lover and activist, i will never eat meat, the way our animals are treated today is apalling, why should our food be any better!

Heres a few Liz....UGH!
ATM buttons If you’re not careful, you might pick up more than quick cash from your local ATM. These buttons have more gunk on them than most public-bathroom doorknobs! ATMs aren’t frequently cleaned, and are regularly touched — a perfect combination for a lot of germs. Reduce the risk: Carry an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with you and rub it on hands after visits. Also be sure to do it after you handle paper money, which actually carries quite a few germs, too.
The hotel-room remote control What’s the first thing you do when you settle in at a hotel? You grab the remote control and switch on the TV — you, and the hundreds of other guests who’ve stayed there. How dirty is it? A recent study tested various surfaces for the cold virus after a group of sick people had stayed overnight and found the virus on the remote, door handles, light switches, pens and faucet handles.

It is a down-right shame that you can`t get safe stuff anymore. Everything from food to medicines, I guess these companies thinks all furbabies & humans are expendable.
