Thanks to member Labdp for her contributions to our blog!
One of my favorite dog-loving friends gave me a book the other day. She likened it to a "coffee table" book. You know those huge over sized books that we sometimes purchase to make our coffee table look good, but rarely actually open? The title of this book is.... Flawed Dogs....the author is Berkeley Breathed. My friend lovingly inscribed the book to Nancy and her dog menagerie.
I think that is a lovely tribute. I am taking that as a compliment in it's highest form. The book, as the cover describes...."is the annual catalog of the country's most shockingly un-adoptable dogs, collected regularly at the Piddleton "Last Chance" Dog Pound......" I have to say the illustrations in this book are hilarious.
But the premise of the book - Flawed Dogs - really hits home. And not speaking of just the dogs, who among us is not flawed in some way, shape or form? I have to believe "flawed" is the norm and not the exception.
For the record, I love my menagerie. And there is always room in my heart for another. If they are not quite perfect (neither am I) so be it. Bring me your homeless, bring me your flawed, bring me lonely four-footed friends who so desperately need a second chance.
Their needs are not so different than ours......perhaps we can learn to accept our "flaws" by learning to love theirs.
So if you should visit our home, and can get past the resident menagerie, please open my coffee table book. It's a winner. I guarantee it.

Re: Flawed Dogs
All my dogs were considered flawed by someone, but not to me. that's the reason they are mine. I think I'll go see if I can find the book. Thanks.

Re: Flawed Dogs
All of my crew are flawed if compaired to others ..... but guess what they may not be dog show material, but they are my loving babies and they are with me because they needed a home, someone to love them and they love me back unconditionally. They make my life great...There are no flaws when love is involved....I would love to read the book

Re: Flawed Dogs
I love anything by Berk Breathed. Was totally bummed out when he stopped doing Bloom County. Our small town newspaper doesnt print any of his newer stuff. I have all of his books, not to mention a small Opus tattoo on my ankle, but I don't have "Flawed Dogs" - I'm going to Amazon.com right now and get it.

Re: Flawed Dogs
Sounds like a really good book. I hope I get a chance to read it someday. Both my dogs are flawed in some way, but then so am I. We all have our differences .
