| May 2 Written by:aajoanne Friday, May 02, 2008 It may sound odd, but the Poop Whisperer is my new nickname. Hmmm, I've have many nicknames, but this one really piles it on.
Anyone who has ever trained a puppy, or a dog, knows you are supposed to praise the bejebbers out of them when they do their duty. And training them to potty on command is a good thing too.
I think it goes without saying encouragement makes any process easier, and pooping is no different. Shall we say that Pete was less than willing to do his duty for his Foster Dad the other day. Multiple times they went out, and still nothing to show for it. It could have been the cold, it could not have been the right time, or it could have been bad poop karma between the dog and the man holding the leash.
Not to gloat, but when I took him out and whispered the magic words....well, what can I say - poop happened. Thus dubbing me the Poop Whisperer.
Foster Mom, Crazy Dog Lady, Poop Whisperer. Dogs are my life. And as silly as it all sounds I can live with that.

Re: The Poop Whisperer
That's so cute! We called my oldest daughter the Pigeon Whisperer. She found an injured pigeon in our backyard and kept it for a couple weeks hoping it would heal. She tried to set it free, but it got loose and wouldnt fly...she was the only one who could walk right up to him and pick him up. Another week and he flew off high over Lake George til he was no longer in sight...it was awesome.

Re: The Poop Whisperer
Lol - - the magic word is potty-potty-potty-potty. Actually you repeat it until the dog poops or is hypnotized! Not exactly rocket science but it gets the job done.

Re: The Poop Whisperer
I've got five dogs and all but our Jack Russell are larger. Our magic word (or words) is, "Hurry up." And boy does it give results! =D

What an adorable little face! There are worse names than that to be called, so we must accept them with grace, eh?

Re: The Poop Whisperer
I like your style, Poop Whisperer! I'm about to (hopefully) adopt a 4 year old Pomeranian and your words or wisdom may very well come in handy. Thanks.

Re: The Poop Whisperer
The word "potty" definetely gets their attention. Especially when you give them a treat after. My 8 month old chi was litter box "potty" trained at 12 weeks. Now she uses that and goes outside if we are out.

Re: The Poop Whisperer
Sometimes I call my puppy the poop whisperer because he seems able to sort out the "snacks" wherever we go. We have had a difficult time with potty training; I hear that is common with small breeds. If you have stumbled upon the magic word that appeals to the ears, heart, bowels and bladder of small breed dogs please, by all means, share those secret syllables with the rest of the human race. H E L P !

Re: The Poop Whisperer
The word "potty" has worked for all of my four legged babies. The funny thing is it also has worked for my two legged babies 20 to 25 years ago. I've had the magic word all this time and didn't know it!

Re: The Poop Whisperer
With previous sadly departed dogs when I got agravated I would tell them that if they didn't Go I would Squeeze them . Sometimes it worked & at least it made me laugh .I will try Potty,Potty Potty .The agravation usually took place when an unexpected storm was getting too close for comfort & poochies was just Ambling along on a metal leash with Lightning around . I switched types of leash but they still had metal clips . I probably won't post here much unless somebody tells me if the font size can be increased & how, as even with my glasses on I can hardly see what I am typing .Ouch .The right lower corner of my browser window says it is on 100% magnification. Help!

"Go potty" has always worked for me! It's so nice to have my baby go when asked!! :-) Good luck to those of you who are still training!

Re: The Poop Whisperer
Wow, what a cute picture that is. Im sure glad you all seem to have success with the potty on command thing. I have a very stubborn dachshund who only goes when she wants to go. Ive been saying Go Potty to her for years now and it dont work, I guess i must of done something wrong from the beginning because we can spend sometimes 10-15 minutes outside wondering back and forth around the yard before she will go. Oh well, I love her anyway. hehehe

Re: The Poop Whisperer
Hahahaha! I use the command "go potty" and my big guy definitely knows what it means = ). I praised the beejeezes out of him after he'd poo when he was little & he LOVED the praise! Now, even as a 3yr old, he gets so excited after he goes that he does the "tuck-butt run" for a few victory laps around the yard, LOL!

Re: The Poop Whisperer
what a cutie pie. My Nate tells me it's potty time by spinning around in circles a bunch of times and looking at me as if to say,"well come on can't you see I gotta go potty!" I wonder what you could call that?
